Hello Joy, which one has a darker sound, Obligato blue or Obligato red? And which is darker, Obligato (red or blue?) vs Infeld red? I love a dark sound like Viola.

Why is it necessary to use friction pegs, which can break, and also, the holes have to be reamed out on occasion also? Seems it would be easier to use guitar style tuners, and that to would eliminate the need for fine tuners as well, and possibly eliminate breaking strings by just not rotating as fast as a peg.

pizzicato is also made from the bow, either with the bow up or down, the important thing is where the bow jumps better, many people told me to pluck the strings with the finger like on a guitar or bass

Hey Joy, great advice! How would you recommend storing a violin for longer term storage? I recently sustained an injury and won’t be playing my violin for likely over a year or so. The violin will be in a temperature and humidity controlled room so no worries there. Should I loosen my strings or leave them as is? Any special things to do for long term storage like this?

Your explanation and instructional demonstration is really "Top Shelf"!! Thank You! I just ordered this scale book and I am looking forward in getting started on it! I've "liked" and "subscribed" and I will definitely be back!! Thank You so very much!!

This is great timing for me! I’ve been practicing a Bach piece and a minuet of mine and having trouble with quick string changes (one featuring up bow on A then D and immediately back to down bow on A; and a grupeto down bow on A with an immediate up bow on E) I’ll be using your method in practice and focus on those two parts and see if I can learn it effectively!

Usually I keep flattening my fingers because it feels painful when curving them. Is that normal is it supposed to hurt? I seem to play flat not just in high position but it whatever position I play.

Please, Joy, could you tell me what book is a complete violin compilation of 4 octave scales & arpeggios, with standard and consistent fingering, as well as clear signs as to where to shift? I bought Flesch online, but it is not at all what I need, in fact, I 'll never make sense of it. As a self-taught violinist/violist, I am really frustrated not to have such a basic 'dictionary' to refer to. THANK YOU in advance!

Great videos, you explain so well! I'm looking for a complete book of violin scales& arpeggios, but so far, no luck. I purchased online the Flesch Scale System, and was really disappointed. It had sparse, nonstandard fingerings, and absolutely no markings as to where to shift. Also, it only did 2 octaves instead of 4. PLEASE , please tell me what is the best compilation book, with fingerings and shifts in all keys, and consistent fingering ascending & descending. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Well, I started learning the violin with private lessons in my 60s. I am on Suzuki book 7, but I am not able to learn vibrato, and this is so frustrating. I do not know what to do about this.

May I suggest looking at your left thumb? As soon as I was able to play without my thumb having any tension (you should be able to have someone pull it away without any resistance), my vibrato developed beautifully.

Wow. You have know idea how much my stress levels have decreased when watching this. Suffering from Cognitive disabilities whcih incase diagnosed with keeps slowing me down to process what I learn. I'm currently a music performance major. I hate how teachers are usually extremely discouraging towards my goals and suddenly try to change my career paths. Why not tell me how to improve my skills to get there? Would you say the characteristics for sight reading apply to all kinds of auditions such as auditioning to college programs or professional orchestra?
