For the day and night cycle, could you setup LED lights of some kind in the room so you could lower the lights or even color them in some way? I think everything would still be visible but it would add to the atmosphere and mood a bit more and still be physical

In the game from my playthrough series, we literally turned one of the lights on and off to show day and night. It was just a bit obnoxious and probably not great for the light switch. LEDs would be cool, but that's definitely at the bottom of my priorities at the moment!

I love seeing people getting into 3d printing! The ender 3 is a greater starter, but I highly recommend you look into Bambulab printers when you are ready to replace it. I ran an ender 3, highly modified to fix its shortcomings, for years. I spent more time tinkering to get things right than actually printing. The bambulab a1 I have not had to touch a single thing on with 60+ hours of prints.

You could add roads to your game, to increase movement speed of units but it has to be built first. Or an forcemarch ability that grant opportunity attacks to enemy units if you are in range 🤔
@CORbricks
@CORbricks 11 күн бұрын
I do have roads in a sense, but I don't think I have ever shown how they work on video yet. I will say, I always toyed with the idea of a steampunky faction that could build train tracks, but as my board gets more and more 3-dimensional, I no longer feel that's a viable game mechanic. 🫠

Grid
@chrischristiansen6204
@chrischristiansen6204 17 күн бұрын
In the example space used making out the 3x3 lots of spaces was pretty easy to do visually so switching between the two movement types was quick and easy. However in the grass land areas the distinctions between the lots is less immediately obvious and will become more so as more details like trees and greenery are added. I think if you were to have a simple gamification of the middle of the lots it would be the least disruptive to visual aesthetic while still keeping ease use in mind. I think the easiest would be to choose a distinct color either from the ground pallet or from all the units as well. White or red or maybe a pastel color like pink for example. Greater contrast makes counting quicker. Then replace the 4x4 center tile of each 3x3 grid with that color (least piece and time intensive). Or put a color ring of some kind around the center 4x4 of every other lot. The color ring would probably look a bit better as the color contrast wouldn't have to be much just consistent enough to visually pick up the pattern. It could also be the same color as the existing center as the additional size to the center would also be an indicator. I think the kind of checkerboard mindset for quick movement will probably be best for quickening movement as you described. It will be easy to pick out lots from the pattern to make movement quick. A more wargame type approach would be to double movement when outside say x1 blank space from an enemy unit but would be slower to process due to counting individual spaces and not being as easy to pick out groups to speed up counting without a measuring tool if diagonals are allowed. It would also be slower for things like overwatch or units with ranged attack options engaging with melee units moving into their range. If you have cover or rough terrain, maybe small obstructions between spaces dont effect or have a -1 penalty to unit movement when moving between lots but act as physical barriers when engaged at per space movement. Buildings like the temple could act as walls in the same way either having a greater penalty when moved through or requiring per space movement. Then there would be a tactical choice on if moving directly through at a slower pace is worth it vs going around even outside of any full or partial cover the building may offer. It could be the difference of just getting to the other side of the building (with 3 movement) but still inside with cover or in the 3x3 lot on the complete other side.

Lots of great things to think about here! I have also been thinking if I want to go a step farther to make these larger space divisions clearer. I am actually using Lego tile pieces to outline the 3x3 spaces in the ocean since different shades of water already denote deep vs shallow water. I might extend this onto land as well, especially since some areas (like the desert and snow) are going to be impossible to make a checkerboard effect otherwise!
@chrischristiansen6204
@chrischristiansen6204 17 күн бұрын
@@CORbricks If you go with the outlined center space in the 3x3 grid you could do a side of it with a color variation. For example in the water using white or an off color light blue along one edge for a wave while keeping the rest of that the same existing color. This could even be broken up on occasion with an incomplete line. The key is to have something that the eye can lock onto for pattern recognition. For snow maybe try a clear or trans blue tile edge like exposed ice? Desert could be a lighter or darker shade of tan or pale yellow (or an exposed rock color in the orange or red spectrum). You could also try giving those variant color edges an extra tile of height to further make the look of waves or height variations if it wont interfere with units or get lost in other details. I think as long as the color used for highlighting spaces is reserved for that or sparingly used for details in that type of terrain it should work out well. As it stands the individual spaces look to be easy enough to pick out, so you just need something regular to be perceived to make picking out the 3x3 grid easier- I would experiment with the center space modifications first and see how well it works. Color, height and texture will all help with that. Worst case scenario you can slap on some grid lines or some something at the edges of each 3x3 intersection.

Personally, A few things come to mind! But, the most significant of them would be a "Road" or "Path" tile. Something to allow units to travel faster over it than other tiles (Perhaps 2-3x, similar to the D&D Dash action as @prophetofbeans6781 suggested), but not applied to the ENTIRE map, mostly just between resource points. This way, there's still the option of a "risky" venture away from the paths, where, if you were to be ambushed or get into a fight, it would take much longer for reinforcements to arrive, which would add a nice element of planning/strategy IMO!

I really like this idea! A common problem in strategy games is that the speed that gives interesting and fair tactics is not a good speed for the grander strategy and logistics. In fact this reminds me a bit of the upcoming changes in Civilization VII where they're introducing a new unit called a 'commander' which can carry an entire army in a single tile and then plop them down when entering the warfront, and also allows for newly built units to disappear and reappear next to them after a few turns, instead of having to move them through an entire continent. These ideas are obviously not as applicable to your man-on-man wargame but I do believe that making a distinction between the movement to get units to battle and the movement done within the battle ought to be different, though this could also be done through more specialized mechanics like marching or something like the caravans mentioned in the playthrough videos instead of being the default. As for the aesthetics of tiles (which I think could be called chunks but that's probably just 'cause minecraft) I do think it does lose a bit of texture, however not only is it good for this change but also it could probably help with better judging distances, even within a battle. It generally just makes the space more readable which is nice, though it does accentuate the need for decoration

In D&D, your character has two major actions: movement and an attack action. If not in a combat encounter, but still using the grid, you make movement a full round action moving up to 2 or 3 times your normal movement speed (depending on your race/class/magical abilities/armor type). Normal is 30 ft, each square is 5 ft, so 6 spaces in D&D speak. Not sure if this is applicable, but it's the closest analogue I have as a super nerd :/

I'm pretty familiar with DnD's combat (I think it's combat is even more complicated than mine). I don't necessarily want to create more options for my players to choose since there's already quite a bit of "analysis paralysis" when someone is taking a turn, but I should keep the DnD "dash" action in mind going forward, perhaps for some unit abilities. Otherwise, I am hoping the tiles speed things up without creating more decisions for my players to make.

Nice system, victory point are always a good system, could be interesting to have some kind of public objectif (like in twilight imperium) were all players could try to achieve the same objectif to gain influence, it could be link to your system of event card like the solar flare in the last video, something like a dragon invade the continent and the faction who slay it gain influence. Otherwise I am afraid that some faction will be nerfed and other buffed by the influence system : - Anakria with the mechanic were the leader become more powerfull each time he is slain is now a problem since you are now loosing the race for influence each time he die - on the other way the raider, from the looks of it don't seems to create building, so the other player have less way to gain influence against them, could have influence tied to destroying their raiding ship to compensate. Last but not least it could be very good that each faction have their own specific way to gain influence, the rebellion could gain influence each X number of prisoner converted. the kingdom could gain influence during the execution by performing a honorable duel against the prisoner.
@CORbricks
@CORbricks Ай бұрын
Great points! The raid ship definitely needs to be worth something if sunk. You are right about Anakria, who is really double nerfed since they can't complete quests either. Faction specific ways to spread flags probably need to be implemented, and your ideas there might offset the Anakria nerfs if done correctly. So much to think about!
@nigelmcgrath7124
@nigelmcgrath7124 Ай бұрын
Love the victory point system so far. One thought I had was maybe allow all the regular factions to plant a flag when they sink/clear a raider ship. Just because the raiders aren't producing buildings to capture like other factions. And as an added bonus it gives some incentive to actually fight the raiders head on as long as you're equipped for it.
@CORbricks
@CORbricks Ай бұрын
That's a great idea! I suppose technically all ships are hero units, so players should be getting flags when they destroy them (but I honestly didn't think about it that way). I should also do something to prevent the Raiders from cheating other teams out of flags if they choose to burn their own ship. Maybe then I could actually incentivize other players to sink the ship! For obvious reasons, most players have no interest in sinking the ship since it'll typically accelerate the Raiders' return, but if it means spreading an influence flag, that might change how players approach the ship!
@nigelmcgrath7124
@nigelmcgrath7124 Ай бұрын
@@CORbricksgood point, maybe if a ship is sunk (any faction ship) in shallow water it gets replaced with a "ship wreck" (4 or 6 tile depending on size of ship) side build. The "shipwreck" acts as any other captured neutral building and starts with the flag of whoever sunk it, raiders included. That way the raiders are still producing something that can change hands multiple times but it itself wouldn't produce anything. Unless there are necromancer mechanics of some sort, in which case maybe it could produce water themed undead under certain conditions.

I love this system! It's a really good way of making both civic and military progress valuable and it actually adds new strategic elements to the game rather than just being a number to track like other games. The only thing I'd like to add is that you maybe consider making factions have unique ways of spreading flags, this can help people play a faction in the intended way and could even lean more heavily on assymetric play. Though, this might overcomplicate things and it definitely should be something to consider after playing around with what you have so far, also it does seem that a lot of intended behavior is already encouraged in different ways, like the Raiders killing their units to get better boats
@CORbricks
@CORbricks Ай бұрын
Awesome! I have a twist with flags that I'm going to implement for raiders, but I didn't consider adding unique options for teams. I'll definitely think more about that, if not with the 4 I have shared maybe with some of the other six.

I think the quest cards add a lot of depth to the game and rewards players for interacting with all of the game's mechanics and incentivizes them to do crazy stuff you would never see otherwise. It's really awesome. But with the Vernicus card, I can definitely see a huge exploit where the Kingdom player just keeps dropping Hawk Knights off of towers for unlimited critical hits, since before Vernicus is summoned it appears this can be done unlimited times. But I might be forgetting some of the rules from older videos.
@CORbricks
@CORbricks Ай бұрын
I agree that it is something I will watch out for in future games. I have a couple friends who, for better or for worse, are always chasing after any exploits they can find. That said, the strength of this particular unlockable card comes from the surprise. There aren't too many situations in the game where a Hawk Knight or Jalen can get the jump on someone with it, and even when they do, they would have to climb back up to be able to repeat the gambit. In this situation, if the card failed, I honestly would have discarded it for a new unlockable card (you can discard and redraw whenever you complete any portion of an unlockable card). I just don't see players getting lured into that trap twice, and it would be better to have another path to your unlockables.

You would put a staff piece in his hands and then use the hooks and gears contraption to make him climb. The armor would get in the way of the positioning of the pole. I created something similar with a friend of mine, when I was a child and we did this for a few weeks only and left it at that. So I really love the whole setup of the table, the game rules, the making of buildings and their abilities. However you make very specific stories and lore within your setup. I think you should go broader. Make a general ruleset for a Lego tabletop wargame so that people can adopt it to their Lego themes. I think that will create way more interest in what you created here, because the basic premise of what you created here is just AWESOME.
