please do not just spray with hose water. The water evaporates and leaves all the minerals in the water on the panels causing hazing which will reduce performance. if you do use hose water do first thing in the morning when panels are cool. Wash then squeegee water off. This minimizes the water spots and minimize hazing from minerals. Great video if you want to see how much the dirt reduces performance get radiance meter and do a reading before cleaning and after cleaning. When using meter make sure to take reading in same spot and insure what for same sun light conditions.

I have a system in central CA near Sacramento. Beware of shady salespeople trying to sell you a wash. A good rain usually washes them clean enough. This video does not show how much energy gain the system got after a wash, only how pretty the modules look afterward. All you have to do is look at the system monitoring and look at a day when the modules got soaked with rain. Compare a few weeks of production to the following few weeks after the rain to see how much energy the system produced. Rainy days may be few and far between in some areas, but overall, washing the modules is unnecessary. You may get 2-3% more energy gain, but how much water did you use (and pay for) to get that gain? I bet you a case of your favorite beer that it is a wash, no pun intended. Commercial and utility-scale projects with PPAs are completely different animals.

Some states have container laws. Write up a petition. We just got ours passed via petition in Oregon! Some stores just don't follow all the laws or care but the bigger chains tend to. However, why not just put the pasta and your other items in a reusable bag like you did for the veggies/fruits or if too fine put in paper bags? Albeit it may cost you a couple extra cents for the weight of the bag but it can't be much I imagine. Sometimes the store supplies small paper bags too for items like mushrooms or spices if not provided for the item itself. But you could just buy them if you were worried about the extra cost of the heavier reusable bags, but seems like a wash to me. The cost savings you get from shopping at winco seems like it'd be worth it regardless.

You can't just "float" those tiles you took out you have to use mastic or something else to secure them or they will slowly slip out. Other than that looks good.

In our area, grocery profit margins at store level aren't very high. Most of the stores which have tried some usage of customer based containers have lost thier shirts due to unrung volumes be it a confusion, training and register system, spillage at the bulk container, or out right shoplifting issue.

Cross contamination is a very valid concern with respect to how the laws are in many states. Let's say you, the customer bring in your container and it is contaminated with a meat borne thing like salmonella or echoli which isn't visable. You then put a ready to eat food that provides a rich breeding ground such as a soft, dried fruit. A week to a month later you get sick enough to seek medical treatment and, the first questions asked are what did you eat last, where did you buy that food. I don't know abiut your state but in ours, the State and county Department of Heslth descent like a swarm of sledge hammers depending upon what the food borne illness is with the intent to stop and decease further sales of QUESTIONABLE foods, eliminate all potential cross contamination, and lastly investigate the actual source. Generally this involves a lot of tossing out of food and exceptional sanitation efforts. I believe a business can pay for the testing to clear thier food but that gets expensive pdq.

In this area, Whole Foods stores are destination shops for us and seem MUCH more expensive. We do look at bulk foods and spices at both the much more accessible WinCo and local Kroger owned stores. Each calls for the use of plastic bags but, certainly the goal is a second use of each bag. We also have access to a local, health food store a destination drive's away from us which pre-pandemic was struggling through trying to allow the use if customer's containers. About 10 miles up the road and over an arterial was a small produce and ethnic store with both some bulk items but also bagged items in the 25 to 100 pound sized bags. Winco's offerings of original sized bags continues to increase and be easier to buy too. We aren't as zero waste as we were for an assortment of reasons (including the extra packaging products come in) but often try to buy in the "big bag size" for the staples we know we will eat through. Again, for all the wrong reasons of cost, convenience, not running out, and not forgetting at the grocery store.

I am old enough to have been shaped a bit from the ecology movement of the 1960's and 1970's; also to have lived periods of more and less economic flushness. Being my generational age, I also had tales around the table spoken about lean times both in this country, assorted old countries, and more. The 1970's word conservation did not translate into an excuse to clear cut willy-nilly etc...but did marry well with the assorted tales of lean. Even in times of flush if I conserved from an economic, resource use perspective it resulted in more financial goal or discretionary spending capability. For myself, i would MUCH prefer to have play money and time which in turn has boden well for living a reasonably eco-friendly life style without effort. Early in the carbon counting game, I was taken to task by someone who had been taking a lot of concern, effort, and money to becoming more carbon neutral but at the end of my interventional interview and survey came out with a better score than they. This did notmp,ease them -at all! - and in thier huff, they proclaimed that I may have had a better score but for all the wrong reasons! Re-using packaging, reducing my waste stream, and being somewhat energy conscious with a preference for passive systems were my carbon counting bonus points. On the other side of the coin, I much preferred to do my shopping on the way home as opposed to sitting in traffic for the same amount of elapsed time, park at a visible place at the mall (where I coild find my darned car rather than walk parking lot aisles) then walk elsewise as opposed to walking for exercise's purpose alone and reducing the time between tune ups, and the list went on. - Closed loop recycling and re-use were top scoring responses on the survey presented however.

Finially, someone honestly promoting the re-use of food container jars. What you don't mention is that often jars like the syrup jar have unique(ish) designs that actually work best with specific types of foods similar to the original. The mish-mash of different dimensions and sizes allow you to more completely fill a shelf. I have never felt like I've had enough shelf space and/ or honestly did not so, have down sized and upsized on a semi-contunual basis for decades; having a collection to choose from helps in this. I hadn't heard of the oil and baking soda mix; ill have to give it a try. What I've traditionally done is put jars like the applesauce jar in the dishwater at the 3nd of dish washing then let sitnover night. Ive used a lot of rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, and acetone frim the hardware store, combined with heat, on the stubborn glue spots. I do use a lot of perma marker labeling on the glass which dies come off with rubbing alcohol if dish soap doesn't do the trick.

I'm in the central valley in Ca. also. We have hard water out here, do you get scaling from the high calcium. I'm worried that scaling may be worse than dust build up. The rain we get would clean the panels partially but scale would be really difficult to remove.

That is an often overlooked consequence of module cleaning. I live outside Sacramento and the water is terrible. You may do more damage to your module output by using that kind of water than you would be leaving them alone until the next rain. If you proceed, then you will need to scrub them down and buff out the water spots as you would for your car. Not fun- a lot of elbow grease and a higher water bill for not a lot of gain, generally speaking.

How about if you re-use those bags. Just put them into your empty jars and take them to the store with you. Those bags then won't be "contaminated" but other product, e.g. mistakenly putting white flour into a rice flour bag. It's no more effort than what you are already doing. I think for them to redesign their system is a lot to expect if it isn't already built into it. Winco is a great place to shop. They recycle those bags as well; you can drop them off near the front doors. I use reusable nylon bags for things like your beans and pasta. They're great. They don't work well for things like flour as there is a clinging residue to clean off every time. Try these suggestions.

Does cleaning your solar panels make them cleaner? Apparently, yes! Does it make them more productive? This video will not tell you. I'm guessing this guy has a central inverter with no individual panel monitoring, so that's why he couldn't provide comparative data between the clean panels and the dirty panels.
@gregsmith4257

You don't need micros or optimizers to do that test. Compare the string inverter output from a few weeks before to a few weeks after the cleaning and that is good enough.

Thank you! Finally, a video that tells the truth. For those of us who want to live a low waste life. Because living a zero-waste lifestyle is practically impossible, and it isn't even worth trying doing. But not only that. You're absolutely right about all these lines of this beautiful brand-new glass jars. You don't need any of that. A lot of your food comes in a glass jar and you can reuse it. Thank you for pointing this out you're the only video that's done that.
