I was a big fan of Giant Bomb from 2011 until a few months after Jeff Gerstmann left. It was my first podcast. It broke my heart how much the show/site changed and lost over the years. That said, I was always a big fan of Giant Beast, and Nextlander really feels like it's keeping that original torch alive in a good way.

The killer for me was that a game about space exploration has little to none space exploration. So much emphasis was put on customizing your ship but you can literally ignore it if you want. Hell you can't even travel to a planet inside a solar system without using fast travel that is just shameful.

I’m picking up what this video is laying down. After watching enough episodes of Not Just Bikes, I couldn’t help but notice that the host of that channel is not only guilty of what Nth points out, but it seems he doesn’t make any suggestions to actually improve any towns dude showcases, but seems to dismissively recommends to just uproot yourself to another city that’s is so much better than wherever you are right now. So yeah, he’s a bit pretentious. This video here is my first watch of this channel and I already find more value in it than any others I’ve seen so far. Thanks for the hustle, the encouragement, and the tangible recommendations!

Within a year of watching my first NJB video, I joined the Parks and Trails advisory board in my Village. Another year later I was the chair of the board and on the Capital Improvement plan committee. Now, 6 months later, I was just asked to be the director of the Local Development Corporation. There is hardly an infrastructure project in this small town that does not include my hands in some way. For all their faults, the youtube urbanist community really got me riled up and im goin for it. I am going to start my bachelors in city and regional planning this fall and I am just realizing with watching this video that I picked it because I like to solve problems but also that I may have fallen into "This is such a cool thing! I have all the answers!" and not bothered to look at exactly what I am jumping into. I can create all the solutions to a problem but what does that paper work look like, what does working for the city look like; what am I doing?
@rickrand80413 күн бұрын
Seven minutes in "dungeons formed organically", what? They aren't procedurally generated. They are static, thats a huge part of the problem. There are way too few of them so you end up hitting not just ones that look alike, but are exactly the same with the exception of the randomly generated loot inside containers and enemy corpses. Did you just not notice?

The moment you ditch the cover mechanic, Max Payne 3 becomes the most fun in the series. It seriously felt like a mechanic they tacked on because it was the thing to do during that console gen, but you can 100% play it like the first 2, run and gun style, and it is better for it.

People have felt unsatisfied with how bethesda games were declining in quality, it's the reason people recommend new vegas over fallout 4 despite fallout 4 having the better engine, starfield probably is not that bad but in the end is the straw that broke the camel''s back in what constitutes an acceptable game to pretty much most of the fans. Bigger doesnt always translate into better if you arent capable of filling it with content, and the way they have depended on modders to fix their game has clearly gone out of hand with them hoping fans would make the game worth to the public by having huge amounts of space with literally nothing. TLDR: This game is just full of the mistakes bethesda has done in previous games but with even more problems and kind of dialed up to the extreme, and the fact that it is a new ip just makes fans see it way more clearly than with previous games where the charm of the setting might have clouded public interest

I guess the channels just think that their job stops at planting the seed in your mind so that you can't unsee things, and then you will be forced to act one way or another, leave or advocate? The only "nice" answer I can think of. Otherwise yeah. I watch so much of this type of content, it's like urban planning porn. I live in Europe, but in a city that has a car problem. I recently had a revelation like what you're talking about. My city started rapidly improving in the last year, painting new "painted bicycle gutters" (as much as NJB criticizes them, it's a perfect cheap ultra fast first step), making new bike lanes, building a second tram line!! (we have just one) And planning the third one. Widening sidewalks. Making those raised pedestrian crossings. So much change. And I realized, all this time I've been complaining, somebody has been actually doing something about it. I should stop whining and go do something. I'm an immigrant so I still feel shy like what if they don't like my accent, or how it would be perceived if a foreigner who lived here for only two years starts trying to be active in local politics, would they listen. But I gotta at least try

I’m a regional planner for my local county. I took on this role in large part because of the galvanization brought on by Urbanist KZbin, Not Just Bikes being an example. I haven’t been in the role for long but I can say that even in a fairly local government, so much of it is overwhelming. There are far more cogs in the machine than people realize. There is no one person who holds the power and to sway the course of the local infrastructure alone would be a massive undertaking. NIMBYism is a good example, but also just the shear amount of time and money it takes to make small changes, and that’s assuming your local is healthy and growing. I suppose that can be a good thing. There should be balance, but it seems like getting things done can be a Herculean task unless it’s for a commercial reason. The TL:DR is I wish there were a silver bullet, but there simply isn’t. In order to make change, it will take patience and a collective effort, and a fair number of skilled people who know what they are doing. The only thing I can suggest as I write this today is to pay attention to commissioners and city council members who advocate for things like public transportation and vote for them. While I would love for America to be a public transportation haven tomorrow, it’s these baby steps that’ll actually get us somewhere.

I think you make some good points, people should be more involved locally to get the outcomes they want from their cities and KZbinrs bitch and moan but don’t put their money where their mouth is, but there are two things I want to point out that I think are very important. A) You seem to put a lot of value on “The People” or the traditional democratic processes in the U.S as the main form of change. However the majority is not always right, and when it comes to urbanism I would even argue they are usually wrong. It’s an old example, but a good one, that slavery was a widely accepted institution by a majority of society even if it was clearly wrong. I think multi-purpose zoning, high density zoning, zoning reform, all that stuff is just too complicated for the wide public and generally would be unpopular. Until the U.S is institutionally the way it is I think that advocacy is on some level, actually futile. Small scale changes may be made and I’m happy for all the work you’ve done but I think there is a very real possibility we should discuss that in the U.S there will be no real change locally until there is change institutionally in who controls our local governments budget constraints, what is and isn’t up for voting, and professional vs. elected positions (and who makes what decisions). Making urbanism about democracy I don’t think will help nearly as much as the faith you seem to have put in it in this video. B) Second, there is a completely valid feeling among the American public that their governments on all levels are fundamentally unreliable. Even if they get involved they will not be able to effect fundamental change because so many problems are institutional. I think that this does not fully counter-argue your point (there is no net negative in going and getting involved except for your time) but I think there is a perfectly valid argument out there that people are not involved because government will not be able to truly make widespread change until there are large sweeping changes to the institutions in power.

After playing cyberpunk for about 300 hours, I went for starfield. This game is... too mediocre. There are enjoyable moments, but honestly I don't feel anything in this game. Companions are very mid, romance is a joke ( and at least you can laugh at it ) and main quest line is not engaging enough. The only moments that I had fun with this game is when I killed a bunch of spacers and looted their space station. Meaning the combat is somewhat fun but even in this i think cyberpunk is better with the crazy builds you can play.
