I guess I haven’t looked hard enough under my 55. But is the 55 tunnel offset too? Crazy that swapping the side that the axle offset is, makes it clear everything under the car

Has it stood the test of time? Is it still operating?
@TheBuildSpot
@TheBuildSpot 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. It still functions, though I’ve noticed that I’ve had trouble with my temp reading despite changing the sending unit, and the fuel readings began giving me some trouble. I suspect that was due to me not doing my research regarding the sending units having two different options for ohms I think? I don’t remember right off hand, but yeah. Still functions; the one thing I highly dislike is that even when dimmed, it’s still offensively bright to me at night

how do you compensate for the 8th of an inch cut that you make when you swap the ends is enough to play in the axle give or take?
@TheBuildSpot
@TheBuildSpot Жыл бұрын
Once the two pieces were beveled and ready to weld in, a very, very small gap was placed to help compensate for this, though I’d presume with the small enough amount that it’d likely have enough play not to affect it

Whats the total install hours on this....20 hours??
@TheBuildSpot
@TheBuildSpot 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say it was even half of that. Maybe 2-3 hours for me to get the bulk of it in, another hour to work on the controller and switches, and an hour or two under the hood compressor and wiring wise? I’m also quite slow at mechanic work compared to others so 6-7 hours for me may be more than others need

I utilized a pattern layout from summit and had a machine shop redrill the axles to a Chevrolet pattern, so I could install Chevrolet studs and run the same lug bolts and wheels that I had originally before the rearend swap. A trip to the auto parts store always helps me if I’m shopping for lug bolts on something else, just run them for the explorer if you haven’t swapped the studs out

Yes, size (width) is extremely close to a factory rear end, and this rear end came from a late 90s explorer I believe. I’d have to look back as it’s been some time since I made the video now, a few projects ago, but it was relatively easy and works quite well even to this day

Are you referring to an LS swap? I’d presume so, speedometer runs off if wiring or mechanical sensor.
