I was just a wee lad when this was filmed but I do remember the way people spoke in interviews in this day. There’s just something calming and almost Mr Rogers-like about it. He never could have imagined it would be seen by potentially millions of people 40 years later.

I was lucky enough to sit and talk with him a few times. I saw a transition in him that was a turning point for the better of everyone he led. Like all people he had a bad day once in a while. He was honest and told you what he thought straight up. One time he said, "No one gives 100% all the time. You would pass out from exhaustion." He wanted us to give 100% when it mattered. Rehearsal, performance, interacting with others. Everybody needs breaks. I was there to see the transition where we had almost no breaks, to the time where we had frequent short breaks.

Nice to see our infamous “drum bus” aka No. 2, survive the rain and heat to get us to Atlanta, GA, safely…I’ll always remember when we stopped at a movie theater to see Ghostbusters on our way to the ATL for Finals week..the “art-deco” reference in the movie was awesome…great times and a great year in drum corps. Cadets ‘84 celebrating our 50th anniversary of existence. Here’s hoping The Cadets bring another successful season to the masses who support them and the DCI activity. -FHNSAB, the kid.✌️👍😊🥁

what a refreshing and right to the point interview! Barbara has always been a class act and a great person. She put everything she had into her music/solos. I can remember a time in Atlanta when the drumline came over to do a run-through with the rest of the corps and as we were waiting for the horn line to finish their practice, we could hear Barbara playing her solo. It gave us goosebumps! It was truly amazing and inspirational to say the least. Loved marching that show with so many great friends. :) - The Kid '79 - '84

Great shot of Bridgemen's contra line at :15 - :17, including Stephen Jones, who went on to win DCI I&E in 87 and 88 (with Star of Indiana). I loved these On the Road Again features. They brought more kids to drum corps than the rest of the telecast. (including mine)

The first show I ever saw. Fall 1984 my band director showed us this show. He wanted to know, collectively, if we wanted to be a Friday night band, or reach! Well, we wanted to reach. I borrowed that VHS tape and wore it out. I was stunned!!! The next season (about a month from November rehearsal, 1985 On the Waterfront, I was in Garfield NJ. Baritone in hand. I was stunned by The Cadets from that show. She and Holy Name moved to to passionate love for DCI! Wow, she could blow! Majestic!!!

ELEVEN HOURS in O'Hare waiting for Mr. Frost. Not his fault. However, NOT a fun time for me.....Mark Holub - Percussion staff, Garfield Cadets, 1982, '83, '84.
