There are so many models of Tri-Fold Bikes now, I am wondering how you chose your brand? I am considering the 20 inch Takachia Tiime but need to learn more first.

Thank you for your comment! I think there are few differences between brands in their frame, folk, stem and triangle, so I choose the better parts upgrade my bike. It means I don’t care about the brand, but get high cost performance as a core platform to customize. Recently, I’m interested in titanium parts to save the weight.

@@RollingJapan2024 Did you look at several different 20 inch models? I have been seeing if there are quality differences in the build of Cranston, Leggero & Takachia. We do not get these models in North America.
@RollingJapan2024
@RollingJapan2024 18 күн бұрын
@@daytriker There are many choices in Asia, but I think the main frame is important. There are 3 type, steel, aluminum and titanium frame. In the point of cost performance , I recommend aluminum frame. We can assemble other parts, from choice of Shimano or China brand. There are no manufacturers which can build the complete bike with their parts except Brompton. Once you have the frame from online, the structure is simple and you can assemble it with your favorite parts.

Where did you buy the 20 inch wheel bike? You said that the smaller bike can travel on average at 20 km per hour. What about the bigger bike's speed? thanks.
@RollingJapan2024

20 inch bigger wheels can easily maintain the speed once rolling, so more easy to ride long distances. The average speed also +3 〜 5 km/hr higher than 16inch. I recommend 16 inch for city run about , and 20 inch for touring. This is my touring set up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/roPVioedgtODeKMsi=CMyI0OQHhmqAfOMU

Thank you for sharing your travel experience with your bike. I have a hard case for my travel, which I plan to use on the bullet train, for a trip from Yokohama to Sasebo and Gifu. I think it would be a lot easier than dealing with the airport in general. Using the Shinkansen is a much better traveling experience than flying.
@RollingJapan2024
@RollingJapan2024 2 ай бұрын
Yes, a hard case also can. But I don’t want to carry a hard case bringing in the train car by myself, because I have to queue in a line at crowded ticket counter , train car, platform of the station, and from the station to the hotel. I prefer to move around with minimum baggage until starting to cycle from my first hotel. And I want to send the empty box to the bike storage warehouse to keep it during my cycling in Japan. Usually, a hard case is too big to send by local logistics delivery service. This is my style to cycle in Japan.

@@RollingJapan2024 The hard case was given to me by a good friend who does a lot of bike transporting to just about everywhere. I like the idea of a hard case because I despise what happens to a person once they arrive at an airport. After reading your post, I now have a better understanding of how convenient the soft case really is. This will be my first time traveling with my bike. I am looking forward to it. Maybe I'll get a soft case at some point and compare the difference.

is the 20inch trifold allowed on airline handcarry? I think the 16inch is allowed but i am not sure about the 20inch. thanks! I really like the 20inch but the trifold appeal is I can bring it as hand carry on the airplane
@RollingJapan2024

Thank you for your comment! Depends on the airline's size regulations. If the size of the box is within 200 cm and the weight is within 23 kg, Japanese airlines (JAL and ANA) allow up to two pieces as checked baggage free of charge, even in economy class.

I have lived in and live now in Japan since 1969, and have toured extensively throughout the country, including with my Bike Friday 20" New World Tourist. I am looking for a more easily foldable touring bike, with 20" wheels. I am also looking for a folding travel bicycle for my partner. This looks like it might be just what I am looking for. When will the bicycle come out, and how would it be possible to see the bicycle in person before purchasing it? May I ask where the bicycle sakes is located in Japan? Also, how would a customer go about ordering this bicycle? I'm very curious about what will come out. Thank you!

Thank you for your comment! I am very happy to hear of your interest. This 20-inch trifold folding bicycle is suitable for touring and can be folded up small size, and can be sent by courier to your hotel in Japan, or sent back from your hotel to your home. It can also be easily checked in as baggage for international flights. It is very convenient for travel and I believe this is the best bicycle as your travel partner. I can deliver it to your home in Japan by courier, but you will not be able to see the actual product in advance in Japan. I can take a video of it for you to check it out. If you still want to see it, I will send you more information.

This year, I took my bicycle on two bicycle trips from Singapore to Japan in February and March. The first time, I packed a soft bag with protective padding and took it with me checked in airplane baggage. The second time, I put it in a special cardboard box and took it with me checked in airplane baggage. What is the difference? The first time, I could not use a courier service in Japan. This is because courier services are not accepted in soft bags. For transportation within Japan, I folded my bicycle and packed it in a soft bag and carried it. Major terminals such as Tokyo and Osaka stations were very crowded, and changing trains was difficult, and the weight of the bicycle (about 15 kg) carried on my shoulder made me very tired. The second time, I also packed the bike in a cardboard box in Japan and sent it by courier to the station in the regional city where I would start cycling. Even at large terminal stations such as Tokyo Station and Osaka Station, I was able to travel without carrying the bicycle. For the sections where I would ride the bike, I carried it on my own and in a soft bag. This was very easy; a big difference from the first time. On the last day of cycling, I had an empty cardboard box sent to my hotel from a membership storage warehouse, and I packed my bicycle in the box and sent it to the airport two days before departure. I was able to transfer easily at the crowded Shinkansen terminal station. I picked up my bicycle in a cardboard box at the airport and checked it in as checked baggage for my return flight. I highly recommend that you try to do this method when you travel to Japan by bicycle. It makes inter-regional travel within Japan easier and broadens your range of activities. The key is to bring your bicycle to Japan in a cardboard box (Up to W + H + L = 200cm/30kg *Up to 23kg for airplanes) that meets the handling regulations of Japanese carriers. This way, you will not have to carry your bicycle through crowded terminal stations, trains, and airports when traveling in Japan.
