Amazing! I hope I get there too some day. For now I’m just trying to get pulse detonation engines to work well with injectors. What will your next steps with your engine be? Also how are you burning the alcohol in the engine? Are you just spraying it into the combustion chamber using a pump? Have you considered other fuels asides from ethanol? From my experience using diesel Or kerosene makes significantly more thrust over ethanol.

Why did it look like nearly all the fuel was wasted? It only ignited after it puked several liters of fuel. Is it due to the time it takes to get fuel vapor atomized in the chamber before ignition?

Hey, water has very bad combustion. In fact, it is used to put out fires. You should do it with pressurized air, which, in addition to oxygen, has other elements that can burn.

It’s crazy how these make mach disks when the engines are so small. Maybe you could make a thrust calculator to see how much thrust these things produce

We directly measure the thrust on the test bench. It was a little over 11 N for this test. In a later test we increased the mass flow and reached 18 N.

We use an arduino to aquire test data from all implemented sensors (pressure, temperature, thrust)

So much chamber pressure, such nice mach diamonds but ISP of under 140. Makes the 400isp engines oit there seem even more impressive

They defenitely are! However, we can only reach very low chamber pressures of upt to 6.5 bar due to the pressure fed design approach. Thus, Isp is also very limited

Very interesting project and results ! What is your injector and how do you build it ? And what is the pressure of GOx and Ethanol (how do you pressurize ethanol too ?) ?

Thank you! We use a coaxial swirl injector which is manufactured on a lathe. GOx pressure is around 10 bar and ethanol around 7 to 7.5. We use CO2 or nitrogen for the tank pressurization.

Thank you! Yes, its simply pressure fed. The pressure on the ethanol side is 7 to 7.5 bar and around 10 bar for the oxygen.
