Quite sad that this lovely line was torn up, you can blame incompetent management for that. Also, if they do eventually rebuild that ROW for trail use, they might also have to tear down the old bridge there and build a new, higher one to accommodate the doublestacks on the BNSF MRL Subdivision.

Very cool sounding horn, just like an S3L! Awesome build. Was it really hard to find a 3L K-bell?
@mafarnz16 күн бұрын
At the time it was very hard to find, I actually had a straight bore #3 sent in to be machined down to a 3B (3L). These days they are pretty easy to get.

Beautiful singing K5LA, the way they're supposed to sound. Those new raised letter ones sound awful. Are the snow cones original to the horn?
@mafarnz13 күн бұрын
The horn had holes for cones but no cones when I got it. The cones are replacements.

On the mounting base, same as other Leslie horns.

I actually know about the wreck you mentioned at Pandora Siding, that happened on the morning of February 19th, 1977 when a westbound 205TC train overran the switch and collided with an eastbound 200S train. I recommend watching this video to get a more in depth explanation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpa0aaOgfK18sNk

Why would a cop pull you over for having a horn?
@mafarnz2 ай бұрын
So as an example, in my state the law states :No vehicle may be equipped with nor may any person use upon a vehicle any siren, whistle, or bell, except as otherwise permitted in this section." The law goes on to state that only emergency vehicles are permitted to have them, and only under certain decibel levels which locomotive horns exceed. Thus I can technically be pulled over for having illegal equipment on my vehicle. In a practical sense as long as I'm not being stupid and scaring people with it or using it in town cops don't really seem to care.
@kcgunesq2 ай бұрын
@@mafarnz That's great to know. Yet, I question whether a horn is a 'siren, whistle or bell though i could see the argument for being a whistle.

Hi! If/when you have time to do horn honks again, I had a few suggestions. New Cast P5 but with OC 3 and 4 bells. In theory it should sound similar to a first gen K5LLA. If you have a 4a bell, perhaps a P3 but replace the 4 bell with the 4a. Should sound similar to an S3L in terms of pitch. I've played with samples of these horns to come up with the combinations on Audition, but would love to hear how they sound as actual chime horns.

How is the Nathan M5 different from the Burnett M5?
@mafarnz2 ай бұрын
Slight variations in the bell castings, and a much better attention to quality control. The Burnett M5’s tended to be a lot closer to the intended tuning than the Nathan (American) made M5’s.

Did you know it’s illegal to own train horns unless you own a railroad? It is a felony. One thing they know you stole them.
@mafarnz2 ай бұрын
No it’s not illegal to own them. People can buy them from railroad scrap yards, locomotive dealers or direct from horn manufacturers. Most of my horns came from other collectors. Also I didn’t steal them I’ve gone to great lengths to ensure that my horns weren’t stollen. As to your last part about owning a railroad, I don’t at the time this was filmed but I do now.
