Ive restored one myself nice job! You dont want to use a grinder to sharpen, too risky to keep the right angle. Before sharpening rake the top of the teeth first to make sure all the points are the same hieght also.

Nice video and a great idea to preserve the secateurs. You'll never find that quality again. I use these secateurs in preference to any of my more recent pruners. Mine were bought as a present for my Dad when I was about 14, so just over 60 years ago. My Dad had read a review in a gardening magazine that said these were the best, featuring a new idea, the blade and anvil. The secateurs have been in constant use for 60 years. I'd just add one piece of advice for anybody following your example - when you are sharpening the blade, make sure it fits flat to the anvil. Sounds obvious, but it's easy to take too much metal off and end up with a wavy blade. By the way, it's sad to think of all those British, American and European tools now being made in the Far East, even if they still retain the original brand names. My latest Vise-Grip pliers are made in China, and aren't a patch on the quality of the American made Vise-Grip pliers I have used for 60 odd years. How did we let this happen?

Wow 👌 👏 😍, top job. I have a 2 man saw that was my cabinet maker uncles, probably a hundred years old plus. I have been inspired now to fix it up

Для таких не понятливых, как я, покажите на экран, чем вы брызгаете на металл на 3 мин.? Или напишите в тексте. Сожалею, что нет субтитров. Все очень интересно.

Looks good, just thought I would point out that the wood grain is off 90 degrees, don't hit anything to hard.

How should the grain be oriented? There are lots of ways to go 90 degrees in a 3d space.

Hi mate. Yes you make a very good point, I totally overlooked that. I've been using this for a while now and had no splitting issues. I think if you use decent quality timber it will be strong enough.

Nice job on the hammer but where did you get the drawknife/ rasp? It looks like you made it and cool if you did. George
@robertgreenlaw41982 жыл бұрын
I was looking at the drawknife as well. It appears to be forged out of a farrier's rasp. Whatever it was, he handled it expertly and made a beautiful handle for his hammer!
@vessbo11112 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Yes the drawknife is handmade as well. I used an old farriers rasp because it's really good steel and hold a good edge. A good draw knife is a lot of money and thought I'd make one. I wish I'd recorded it now.
