Hi everyone, I have made a few of these file knives for people over the years and have finally manage to make my first video.
I have many old files which are too blunt to use for anything else, plus they don't tend to forge very well without cracking due to there hardness, so in this video I show you how to make one without forging. A butane torch could be used quite easily instead of a forge to anneal and harden the blade.
The wood I use for the handle is burl Birch, and please note I change the profile of the blade slightly by reducing the length about 10mm, and making it a drop point. I did this because I felt the blade was a little out of proportion to the handle, and also I feel it looks better, as you can see I do most my projects by eye.
