This is a very hardcore and great plugin. Recently, I have been trying to render wallpaper for the mobile phone I designed. I was troubled by the fact that Blender's camera cannot simulate dispersion and spherical aberration effects. This plugin meets my needs in this regard. Before discovering this plugin, I attempted to export the lens group designed in Zemax as a CAD model and import it into SolidWorks for further mechanical structure design of the lenses and drawing corresponding focusing lens barrels, black boxes. After that, I imported them into Blender for assembly, setting up the refractive indices and other material information for the lenses, and used caustics to simulate optical imaging. I aimed Blender's built-in camera at the imaging panel for shooting but did not achieve the ideal effect. I wonder if it's because some of my settings are incomplete. I hope that in the future you can develop an interface that connects with Zemax so that I can verify the imaging effect of the lenses I design directly in Blender. The image simulation from Zemax does not satisfy my verification requirements.

Hi, I love the Helium442 58mm. Is it possible to render layers with the alpha channel intact? I am currently trying to render out a few layers and the alpha is not fully transparent no matter what I try. I would appreciate any tips you can give me, thanks.
@JackToth2 ай бұрын
Hi, i'm tinkering with it a bit right now, seems with the official 4.2 release theres some differences with focus too i need to fix as Edin pointed out. For the alpha, it seems like putting a node from the rendered alpha to a Math Node with Power of 10 seems to drive that floor down while maintaining the images depth of field things ( this is with the transparent and transparent glass settings on). I 'm going to tinker with the 442 lens some more with the render layer material and see if it needs the same treatments.
@JackToth2 ай бұрын
if you display just the alpha channel while viewed at a totally transparent render, crank that power to 10 and youll see a vinette. Some of the darkened areas are from the len's design with introducing vingette. (I bet you would see a falloff in alpha at the corners more so than you have at the middle, so you could render a alpha subtract map from this and keep it to back out of future renders as one method)

Hi Jack, (Apologies if you are seeing this message in multiple places, I wasn't sure where the best singular place to contact you was.) First off, I hope you are in good health, mentally and physically. Secondly, thank you so much for all your incredible development in the field of virtual lenses for VFX! I am very interested in purchasing your Anamorphic Lenses for the purpose of creating a feature animation-quality episodic series, but I was wondering if the Render Passes were usable beyond just the Beauty pass? Asking because, as a Lighting/Comp TD at a VFX studio using Unreal Engine 5 for a feature animated film, we are using Tiedtke's Anamorphic Lenses (can be found on KZbin) and it destroys all other passes besides Beauty. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to respond! Best, Christopher Holloway
@JackToth2 ай бұрын
hi! so far i have converted the 2x kit for use with render layers to work (there seems to be some tweaking needed with the transparency though...) although these are built and meant for Blender Cycles. These various lens kits are the exact prescriptions of glass curvature to achieve the effects, rather than what Tiedtke seems to use which may be distortion maps and aperture settings (i can't speak to that for sure but just based of his video I think thats whats going on). That said, this causes the render time to be slower than other methods but the effect is accurate to shooting with the lens IRL as shown in this video. All in all, if you are using for UE5 then please know I've never used UE5 for film making and don't know if the path tracing methods would transfer well from Blender with the render layer stuff in mind. But do consort Josh Kerr's video on using lenses in UE5 tho, it does work well : kzbin.info/www/bejne/oobKhqdrftiAkLcsi=ab-uhQZOVyFkgXwk

@@JackToth Hey there, Jack! Thank you so much for taking the time of your day to respond! I really appreciate you clearing up the advantages and unknowns when it comes to using your methods of Anamorphic virtual lenses for Unreal. But, rest assured, I am not trying to use Unreal whatsoever with your lens method. I would like to stick with Blender solely. It seems as though, based on your response, that any Render Passes such as Z, Mist, Vector, and Denoising work perfectly fine? Is that correct? Also, you mentioned that there needs to be "tweaking" with the Transparency? Would you mind elaborating more on what that means and how that might be a Render Pass issue or a potential Viewport/Beauty Render (Combined Pass) issue? -Chris H.

@JackToth5 ай бұрын
Thanks man! means alot, since my prototype was so clunky in size it just made sense to pitch as a spotter scope. I looked at ways at shrinking the design which are certainly possible but wanted to keep things as cheap as possible. If you find a good framerate IR sensor id love to see what you use! I pulled some germanium optics from a firefighting IR cam to pair with the FLIR Lepton (essentially gave it a 5.5x magnification from what i calculated) but the frame rate is just a garbage 9hz on those cheap sensors. Could be useful for an overlay though

@@JackToth one thing you can do to possibly lower the clunk is try integrating some of the boards and batteries into a PEQ type unit. Or if you decide to go with something like an AR you could hide some of it in the grip, stock, and fore grip (if you chose to use one) as well as a PEQ style box. It could actually help balance out the rifle some. So far I've found some thermal cameras intended for FPV'S on AliExpress for between $80-$250 for a 256x192, around $200-$300 for 384x288, and around $300-$400 for 640x512 that I'm looking at picking up in the next few weeks for some testing, since I haven't been able to find any videos of them I'll definitely be posting my results if they're worth it.
