The true story of the freakish end to “Witherspoon’s RC Park,” Brooklyn’s last RC racing institution. At the local RC track that was near me in Brooklyn, NY was kind unusual for several reasons, but the demise actually had to do with the “affirmative action,” hiring policies that the RC Track Workers Union (who knew such a thing even existed?) pretty much forced the track to abide by. To accommodate this madness they hired couple of new people to do the simple task of taking care of accidents, essentially flipping cars back over. So they hired these two fat black chicks Ayana Monet Washington and Latisha “Vajayjay” Carter. Not to stereotype, but they were the type of lazy though virtually unfireable chicks girls you might see working at the DMV. When they needed to flip a car over or whatever, it l would take them absolutely forever to finally even stand up, no less actually complete the flipping (of the cars) task. If try to hurry them along, no matter how polite you are, even if you just glance at them disapprovingly, they will take even more time. Actually, I’ve seen them simply pick up the cars and just walk away and go on break with them, then you get your car back smelling like a Newport and smeared with food (chicken grease/sticky with watermelon juice etc.). As far as the 1/4 scale cars, they usually won’t even touch them, “too heavy, come flip it yo damn self!” Essentially, if you crash, you have generally have no chance of finishing the race. Even on longer races, they have almost never taken care of the situation, until the race is over, if that. Usually you just have to go on the track and grab it yourself. Anyway, since just before COVID the beloved Witherspoon’s is no longer in business. What happened was, a 1/4 scale gas sprit car “collided,” with one of the track matron’s feet. The way it actually played out was, the car was pulling onto the track at 5 MPH, if that. The girl ”accidentally,” stepped in front of the car, abd the guy driving it swerved to avoid it. The car slightly brushed against her sneaker, she flinched like 3 seconds later. Next thing you know she’s on the ground crying and screaming “call 911.” 6 months later she was still “recovering from her injuries,” which apparently were extensive. “Blunt force trauma, ‘ankle whiplash’ and PTSD.” It should come as no surprise that she wanted to sue. The insurance company thought it was complete BS so they went to court. She had this really good, “attack Jew,” attorney as well as an, non RC car savvy, all minority Jury (like the OJ Simpson Jury. Well, as soon as they brought o “exhibit A,” the 1/4 scale car, a couple of women on the jury started “chicken necking.” One lady said, “aww hell no,” under their breath. Anyone, who’s ever even watched an episode of Judge Judy, knew it was pretty much over at that point. When they read the verdict, you knew Witherspoon’s RC Track was done for. The verdict was $1.75 Mil. However, there was actually some hope on the horizon vis an appeal. Apparently after the case, a lady in the jury said l, “goddam, they said it was some sort of model. They was lying they ass off! That wasn’t no child, that was a full size, grown ass adult vehicle! Obviously, for the defense that was going to be very problematic. Legally, that was actually a very simple problem to overcome, as it was a “statement of fact.” In other words.,there was no opinion necessary, the vehicle was 1/4 scale, so it wasn’t specifically not “a full size, grown-ass, adult vehicle,” the two can’t be true at the same time. Also, it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of, well I suppose all, inanimate objects. RC cars, nor other non biological entities obviously don’t mature in that way, you just can’t say they “grow,” it’s also factually inaccurate. However, if you know anything about Brooklyn, NY you probably know how this turned out, after all $1.75 Mil. is a shit ton of money. So after the witness intimidation, “lost”evidence, accusations of “racism and bias” as well as the disappearance of old man Witherspoon the case had to be drooped. The RC track had a decent $1 Mil insurance policy, but the extra 750K was just too much to absorb. So, even with the best of intentions, old man Witherspoon’s sons couldn’t continue the operation of track, they were bankrupt and had no choice but to close. True story.

Correct, the Quasi springs are not progressive. That is why I ran them so they were linear through the entirety of the stroke

Has anyone had any experience using the RPM shock discs with different size holes on upper side of the spacers and lower side and used the different sized holes for adjusting the compression and rebound separately? I have played with it in a Street Stock and on High Bite tracks it can make a noticeable difference and in a lot of cases you can run a lot thinner shock oil to speed up the rebound but with tinyier holes the compression can feel like you have a lot stiffer valving.

hey man, love your videos. I too run HB clay tracks, opinions on stand up battery vs layer down? My thought ins standing mine up is more weight to the left and forward. But I would love all perspectives, no one else has a chassis at my track that allows the option of standup vs layed down batteries.
@ATSchaeffer
@ATSchaeffer 6 ай бұрын
Hey buddy! I usually just run lay down. At that time the lay down battery option was just too quick through the corner at 90% of the tracks I would race. If I were to go to the standup it would be for a really green, loamy/dusty outdoor track. It would allow for more weight transfer, the lay down allows the car to get in and out of the corner without much major chassis roll

cool video. I race up in Michigan, 12t mudboss,17.5 late model and 17.5 bomber class at High Banks RC park in Ludington, MI. A bunch of tracks around the area got together and came up with a points series race. Once a month everyone meets at a diffirent track and races for points. Then the last race of the season is well... the championship races. Its called the Great Lakes Shootout. Looking forward to more oval racing from your channel.

So I have been trying to understand how the gumball compound fits into the lineup for RS… Can you share your experience with it and how it compares to the SS, S, SLW, and Clay?
@ATSchaeffer
@ATSchaeffer Жыл бұрын
Yes sir! So the Gumball is a SS Clay tire, comes in faster and gets up to race pace a bit faster than the normal Clay on a more wet highbite clay track. You still have to do the break in method like the normal Clay tire, burn the sauce into the tire on a microfiber towel until it smokes. The lineup goes from what I understand, SS, SSClay, SSLW, S, SClay, SSLW, Medium. The Clays come in a bit faster than the long wears, have a stiffer sidewall than a tradition SS or S tire but the contact patch still is flexible to the surface. The Longwear tires are overall going to be stiffer around the board. In Mississippi the track was so abrasive that the Gumball worked great, just was getting worn out quickly on practice day after a couple 2 minute sessions so I ended up going to a soft tire which lasted all day Saturday

@DirtOvalLife I have a sc5m too. I swapped it out for the sc6. Always wanted to rotate on me with on power turns. Same goes for the 2 of my friends who have a sc5 based bbe modified. Sc6 corners better for me but I will try it on both. I'm curious now. Lol
