can you tell me if i must use the tool to compress the caliper with the puck that spins it as well as pushes it in? i am confused because i have seen multiple videos that say you have to spin it as it pushes however i see you simply used the tool i have that just pushes it in? any help would be great, i dont want to screw up the caliper if i do have to get the spin and push tool. thanks

@AndyTheXTech 10 сағат бұрын
You don’t need to use any special tool to spin the caliper in . But you do need to retract the electronic parking brake how I did it in the video. Don’t be nervous just follow along and you will be fine.

🤦‍♂️ ok I like training, especially when the company pays for it, one time at a training class on brakes, the instructor was the head of Napa Auto Parts “Brake Rotor division” he said Never put Anti-seize on the hub face, and then he showed us why not to do that……. Do what you want with this info🤷‍♂️

No I don’t think you’re overcharging, plus they are also paying for the convenience of going to their home and working there instead of them having to find a ride back home or waiting at a stinky shop.

This is why i never work on friends vehicles. Just asking for issues. Once ina while i will but i feel bad charging them what i should, even tho its way less than any shop and same or most times better work and attention to detail….but then end up charging them way less and run into a big mess on just a simple brake job. I charged my friend 200 bucks for a water pump change on a trailblazer some years back that i did in the driveway in January….bout 25 degrees out. Prime example there lol luckily no issues tho and went smoothly as it should

Thing about capitalism which is always fun to watch is, aside from agriculture which gets screwed over, you can charge whatever you want, blame inflation, and make $$$$. Works for corporations, why not you too? Value is whatever you say it is anyway.

Great upgrade, as even the European 944 has very poor lights, as a fellow 944 owner and an ex-Porsche technician, I strongly recommend that you fit a cover over the battery to prevent arcing on the bonnet. The original Porsche batteries were shorter than the batteries available today, always use a sealed, maintenance free battery to prevent acidic fumes when combined with the rainwater that always finds itself on top of the battery thus preventing corrosion of the battery tray. I recall that Porsche has a battery cover available.

You had me at $200 for a brake job. $200 per axle? Absolutely not. The customer should should pay for the parts cost and your time/hour. Overcharging for each part of the car you work on is ridiculous.

I just went in for a brake job at a mom and pop shop replacing all 4 rotors and their pads. Less than 24hr later the parking brake malfunctioned and now the car is stuck in the driveway blocking my other cars in. Anyway is it possible the shop didn’t change out the brake parts properly using the maintenance mode and didn’t recalibrate the parking brake?

I think that two things can be true, at the same time. It's not unreasonable for shops or mechanics to charge odd prices for simple work...and you should ~always~ do something yourself if you have the ability. The cost difference, is convenience.

I put the grease on the pad ears not under the hardware but that’s just how I was taught. My own tip don’t just zip lug bolts in I’d recommend put them all in down by hand then zip so you don’t cross thread and cause more issues
