Do you know if it's the same process for a car with expired shaken? I bought a car at auction and am planning to register it. I know you need to get temporary plates if you want to drive the car to a test center. Regarding the insurance you mentioned: Do you need to prepare anything beforehand or can you just walk into the place you mentioned at 5:40 and purchase it?
@vareastАй бұрын
To be honest, I don't know, but the transportation office takes care of registrations and shaken so pretty sure you can do everything at once. I never prepared anything re. insurance but my previous insurance hadn't expired. Again, that's where things happen so I'm sure you can do everything once you get there. Obviously for registration you have to prepare certain things, like the parking space. You might also need a certificate of residence (juminho) from your local government office. If you can speak a bit of Japanese, the helper offices should be able to take care of you.

I suggest you get the phone number of one of the helper offices and give them a call.

Hi we have been in Kyoto now for about 2 years but our number plate still reads Sapporo where we used to live before. Should it be a problem if we go for Shaken in Kyoto? Thanks!
@vareast2 ай бұрын
Sorry, I don't know the answer. I think you have to re-register the car because it's tied to a parking space in Sapporo (unless it's a K-car).

The related organization in EU, USA and Australia should start to boycott Japanese companies. The Japanese government will listen to the Japanese famous companies if the boycott started. And the Japanese media increase much more publicity regard to Economic issues not to family or social issues. We should consider it.

How much did u spend overall? And what if you fail on something. Do you need to fix that first to get the certificate or u can fix it after getting the inspection
@vareast Жыл бұрын
For my car (2009 Mazda Axela), it cost 56,000 yen. If you fail on something (it's nearly always headlights), you have to get it fixed first. There are one or two places nearby that can fix certain things (headlights) and you can retest your car another two times (I think) on the same day. I think if you have to come back on a different day, you may have to pay extra. Most of the cost is taken up by insurance and tax, not testing. I can't remember how much a new test would cost. The separate offices there that help you fill out forms (for a small fee) are very helpful, so you could always ask them.

Are there different requirements for older cars? Like cars with carburettors, rotaries or the rare car without a catalytic converter I know someone who’s car came back at 1598PPM HC 👀 but it passed shaken

Do you know if cars with an engine swap can pass the Shaken? Given that it is an engine from a completely different car, but it passes emissions
@vareast Жыл бұрын
Don't know the answer but I think it's YES. They only check the functionality of the engine (oil leaks, etc.) and exhaust (and only briefly). I don't think they check what engine is in there.

I have never seen such a close frequency of waves before, the amount of horizontal lines in the water is scary! But luckily the run up looked quite shallow which would have slowed the wave and absorbed alot of its power. Also because of this I think the defence system was able to cope a lot better than some other places fared, but still a scary thing to see from ground level I'm sure. A lot of the coastline didn't even have defence walls, so I think the authorities knew that the bathymetry of the area would ensure a good natural defence. That or this was either far north or far south, before the end curve of the wave which I hear can carry a bit more power. Good upload👍

does japanese sports car such as gtr r35 or lexus lc will cost more?
@vareast Жыл бұрын
A bit more. The tax amount included in the shaken is based on weight, so you might have to pay an extra 10,000-15,000 yen if you're car is heavy.

What happens if I forget to get a new shaken after its deadline?
Hi Wilson, I have some questions regarding user (self) car inspection (shaken). (About to move in to Japan) I usually maintain my car such as engine/brake oil, ATF/differential/power steering fluid, etc in my country and I’m also going to maintain my own car in Japan as well (planning to purchased used Nissan Fuga or so). Will user shaken require me to fix/replace even unnecessary parts although car’s condition is good and well-maintained if they see me as a foreigner? I heard many bad stories about shaken..
@vareast Жыл бұрын
You shouldn't have a problem. They're only interested in the car passing its tests. They've been quite friendly when I've done it. If you buy a Fuga (which I like) or some other Japanese car in decent condition, you rarely have to change anything.
@Qkfltpdls777 Жыл бұрын
@@vareast Thank you so much for replying! I used to own few INFINITI including Skyline 350GT and maintained them by myself. I heard Japanese people change their car too often and don’t tend to purchase used cars have over 100,000 km or so… But you know they can last longer than that easily with proper maintenance.. Owning an used 2011 or so Nissan Fuga (looking for one with VQ37VHR) decent condition in Japan, do you think it will cost a lot while maintaining the car by myself?
@vareast Жыл бұрын
@@Qkfltpdls777 You're right. 100,000 km or 10 years. I think you have to pay slightly more tax after 10 years, but no so much. And yes, the FUGA engine and other Japanese engines last a long time. Most Japanese cars aren't driven hard anyway. I think you'll get a good deal on a Fuga.
@Qkfltpdls777 Жыл бұрын
@@vareast Thank you so much for replying! It looks like paying more tax would be additional. Are you maintaining basic stuff like changing engine oil by yourself? If so, is it free to recycle old engine oil? Or if you go to repair shops, how much they charge you labor fee for changing engine oil, changing brake pads when you bring your own parts?
Wait, the tsunami was slow to arrive and this little town had the time to prepare and that's being snickered at. The people were prepared, good for them!!

The design of the construction still helped a lot in my opinion. I'm sure it would of wiped out the lower laying areas if that engineering design wasn't there. So one on a bigger scale could ease a bigger tsunami
