Thank you for this video, and for your commentary. Accounts like this will help scientists and the rest of us to understand what the sea did, and why it did what it did. I am glad that you and your family are safe. I am terribly sorry for the thousands who were not safe, and for those who lost their homes and businesses. I admire and respect what I have seen of the resilience and cooperative spirit of the people who live along this rugged coast.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I live on Vancouver Island, Canada on the Pacific Ocean and we are not even close to being prepared for a tsunami. I have learned so much from watching films like yours.

Salut, I am glad you made it, high ground was very thoughtful, middle ground is usually best for me.... I said many prayers that morning from my home in the U.S., begging God to show mercy and grant each person a way to escape. Be Well, Cheers and Blessings!

Thank you for your informative personally story and the great video. And thanks for the english subtitle. So I understand what you say and tell. The tsunami 311 was very horrible and incisive! 😥 I watched the bad reports and films with my son, who died prematurely in 2019, on German TV. All the best to you, your family (you have a sweet daughter) and everyone reading this. God bless. 😔🙏🇩🇪

It was very good that you took immediate, decisive action to get to high ground! There was no way of knowing the magnitude of the tsunami at that time and as other horrific videos have shown, evacuation to high ground was the only method of being safe from the lethal water and debris field. It was nice to see that this beautiful part of Japan was not obliterated like so many coastal communities and that there appeared to be no buildings damaged or human casualties. Your historic video with it's superb narration shows the uncertainty of that day and the very real fear of the tsunami.

Hello, I just wanted you to know that this was one of the best narratives I’ve watched. I’ve seen many videos of the earthquake and tsunami of 3/11/11, and while the majority were in Japanese, a few were in English. But you’re narration, as an eyewitness, was captivating. Your calm voice and how you describe what was happening made me feel as if I was there, next to you, watching everything unfold. When you described the size of that sea wall and what the wave did to it, I was stunned. 10 meters high (33 feet) and 2 meters wide (6.6 feet), constructed of concrete and just smashed! Incredible power. When you went back to your home, at night and saw rocks on the coast you had never seen before, I can only imagine what you must have felt. I’m very happy you and your family survived and I hope your house did too. I would love to visit Japan someday before I’m gone. From all the videos I’ve seen, it looks like a beautiful country and the people seem especially kind. Thank you for this video (history) of what you went through in Chiba. And next time, have a fully charged battery 😉🙂 Take care.

What I see in this particular video, behind the first wave, as it comes in, no other wave is visible as far as the eye can see. That’s frightening. Every breaking wave, has another behind it forming. But not that wave.

I can't believe you went back to get the passports. I would have forbidden you to leave. the force of the energy and gravity and pull of the wave is unbelievable. It sounds like quite a bit of time between the first and last waves. Thank you for your documentation.

I would build my house in the mountains, not in the valleys, that is where water goes. It covers low lying areas and when it hits a mountain that it can’t go over or around, it stars to rise and find the weakest and lowest lying areas to spread to.

So much destruction and debri with loss of human and animal lives. I wish there was a way to deflect a tsunami or divert it away from an area that's populated. How does a ocean handle all the debri that's washed out to sea? Even whole ships are caught up in the aftermath of a tsunami. I don't know how people there can sleep peacefully each night with a threat of a potential tsunami happening.

Is this the first time a tsunami has destroyed this place? If not I don't think I would build again in this area.
