That part o friday talking about ex-homosexuals, i used to think a lot like that Before I discovered I was bisexual, I was very confused and thought it was just a phase since I liked boys too... also im so happy that the world were we live nowdays is way more safer for us than 30 years ago! i know theres a long path to go but still i'm thankful

I have to thank Izzysroughcuts for getting me into Joy Division and post-punk in general. I first heard of the band because of Knight's video about the darkest songs, but this short film was a wake-up call for me to go check out the band. Best decision I've ever made! The next thing you know, Ian Curtis helped me navigate the dark corners of early adulthood. He was a very rare kind of songwriter to come across, and who wrote with such vulnerability and wisdom that today's music so desperately needs. I also finally figured out what job I want: a post-punk bassist. I'm saving money for a Fender P-Bass at the time I'm writing this. It's truly wonderful that a lesbian short film led me to a new passion in life!

Teenage lesbian here! I was born and raised in Perth, (still live here of course), and I just wanted to say this short film not only made me feel seen as a 16 year old who is undoubtedly gay, but also perfectly incorporated the struggles of living somewhere like in Perth where we may not have as many opportunities to be expressive like over east or overseas. of course, a lot has changed since 1987, but god it was still relatable. I loved everything about this, and while I can't express myself the way i want to yet, i can't wait for the day i can, and be with the people who truly know and care about me :)

the way this is shot is so gorgeous, i really feel like i’m in the room with the characters! this is also one of the only films, indie or big-budget that i’ve seen that really shows how isolating it is to be young and queer. the table scene, friday’s ex-gay spiral, the situation in the bathroom, debbie escaping the 1988 party…. you really capture that ostracized feeling in a way many can’t do. from the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing this!

i just wanna remind people, being lesbian was never illegal, mostly just frowned apon in a lot of cultures! they never would have gotten in any legal issues, maybe things with their parents tho :)) (im writing this about a minute in so, sorry if this was explained later on!!)

Probably the best queer short film I've seen, period. The storytelling and attention to detail is inspiring. And the music choice for each scene is perfect. Drawing them in my sketchbook as I write this lol.

Great film and fabulous music. Although not publically accepted the lesbian and gay clubs in the 80s were amazing and the music was the BEST. Happy to have been able to experience it then but also pleased see the progress made since then.

hi!! so this is a non-profit directors' cut - so this video is entirely unmonetised so that I could use as many needle drops as I wanted - I then got an independent composer to make a copyright free score based off of this version, and then used that for film festivals where I wouldn't get away with this soundtrack

literally from the first two seconds of this video u had me like I was like this girlie's got a *vision* & she UNDERSTOOD the assignment- the way you draw out the scene & create like this awkward humorous tension, exposing your humanness in just setting up the camera and taking a second to adjust (also w/ how u ended the video tooo)- idk why that stuck w/ me but then I reeeealized that that's also a really present quality in 1987 like that's what made the fish & chips scene so funny and real and ur brilliant and I love the campy vibes of it all!! like did i mention the *VISION*- i just feel that u understand something that goes deep that most directors don't (& if we're being honest, most people) and that's really special. i felt seen in your work (in debbie and friday & in u in this video & the *audience*), so thank you for that- u the shit & the moment (even tho I'm like 2 years-post but whatever)💅💅
