I love those cars. There’s so much headroom there’s so much room beautiful car.

The music though. As a musician, I cannot overstate how painful this video is. I don’t know if I can finish it. 15-20 seconds of bad music, on a never-ending loop. Louder than the person talking. Seriously, you might as well have added screaming babies over this. I made it to the 5 minute mark and now I have to take a break and drink something alcoholic.

You two should do an update since this is a 4 year old video. I'm fixing up a 68 baja bug for my granddaughter, it will be her first car. She's 15 and her dad and mom (my daughter) have been teaching her to drive a manual transmission. Great video for so many reasons.

She did better than me. I got my vw 68 in 85 for graudation. It sat in driveway cuz i was too scared to drive it.

Really, pliers for the battery cable? The yellow wire to the solenoid and choke stays. Get a real jack, stands are letting car move. This is embarrassing, especially since you've already had it out for the new clutch.

I hate the 1600 dual port engine. It is the worst engine that Volkswagen made. Mother had two Volkswagens. One had a 1500 which ran forever, and never had any trouble. The second one was a 1600 dual port. The 1600 dual port in 137,000 miles sucked valves down into the crankcase three times, and a fourth attempt was averted when a VW mechanic caught it when he found low compression, and did a valve job. A relative of ours had a VW with a 1776 engine, and it ran like our 1500 with no problems. Also, people tried to install oil coolers on the 1600 dual port engines in an attempt to cool the motor and try to prevent burned valves.

The record for a VW beetle engine pull is 1 min. 4 sec. A driving, running beetle, remove engine, pull 1 meter away from vehicle, reinstall and drive away

You're going to give your daughter an old now, and obsolete as far as technology and safety concerned car? No crumple zones in case of a frontal collision (and with nothing but air under the hood) you really WILL CRUMPLE! No airbags, I hear your seat belts don't work(?!!) If you really love and care about your daughter, fine go ahead and teach her how to drive a manual transmission, and enjoy the car on weekends in non suburban areas, etc, but with the likes of great (in every aspect) cars like Hondas/Acura on the road-- Get Audrey one of those!! She'll be a lot less likely to crumple in an accident! God bless you all whatever decision is "final"! PS I had a '67 VW beetle myself and I wouldn't hesitate in buying another one if I had the funds necessary. 😊

I just bought a ‘79 Beetle and it’s been about 20+ years since I’ve driven a manual. This video was super helpful and reassuring even as a 41 year old (pretty sure we made the exact same facial expressions while trying to figure out the clutch). 😅 maybe I need a lucky llama, too, just for good measure… 😂

Nix the drill putting the nut back on. A very good way to bend a pulley. The pulley must be allowed to turn as you tighten the nut to allow the belt to climb toward the outside of the pulley. Read the book..

Pulling the engine out of my ‘73 Super this morning, neighbor has a lift in his garage so hoping that’s gonna make the job easier!

For others doing this: You should probably throw some marvel mystery into the spark plug holes to lube the cylinders before starting an engine that has been sitting. Also taking off the carb and cleaning it is a good idea so you don't get junk down the intake. Also checking the points for white corrosion is a good idea that will save you time.

You guys should be using a bigger floor jack to remove that slug bug engine. Rather than that small floor jack
