Sauna and Avanto! The best. I use a chainsaw as well the make the hole. I usually just push the ice underneath since I don’t have those sweet tongs to lift them. Seriously going to look for a set of those! I admin a few different sauna pages online, SEVERAL people are always looking for plans. You may consider posting this video on the sauna subreddit with the link to the plans. I’m about to enjoy a sauna and Avanto session at camp next month! Katriina will remember that place. I also usually cut my hole so people can stand on the bottom of the lake. We use a ladder too. The floating wood can be tricky, so we actually use an aluminum step ladder. You would think your hands would stick to it, but it doesn’t. Love the content! Keep it up.
@JonathanKuhnКүн бұрын
Avanto! I have much to learn. The tongs are unreal. I saw quite a few on FB marketplace surprisingly. I think they used to be fairly common in the days of ice boxes. There’s a Finnish company that still makes them along with use saws etc. That’s a great idea about the sauna groups! If only the mods would approve it 😜. Oh cool I just asked her about that. Our lake is so deep but there is a spot I want to try where you can stand now.

If water boils at 100c then how come I can sauna at 100c?
@flyinfinn2007Күн бұрын
The short answer is because water is more efficient at transferring heat than air.

@flyinfinn2007 no. breaking a hole in the ice. that how you start the melting. and overheating with sauna. look dude. i am 46 years old i never bought gasoline, i never owned any car. i am ecologist. i holded back my natality so i had no children that would heat the house. i haven't turned on for ladt 5 years the gas heater at my parents house. i never emancipated because that would mean turning the fields into new neighborhoods. you don't have the ethics and morals as to aclimate to your weather naturally. i use feathers and down mountaineering clothing and bed in order to keep my body heat, or i do gymnastics. no need to make constant fire like you, your friends and family do. you worth the california fires. you are like those who pour fake snow at the mountains for the sake of skying, then all those chemicals get into the river. you are like all those who contaminates with car and justifies themselves "you need it for the job". no you just don't. a life is possible without doing all those things, like the lack of respect towards the environment cutting the ice. go ahead pour lava on the north pole and let's end the world sooner.

Some great tips. I think for me the hardest choice would be location of set up. Close to the cabin for a shorter jaunt in the cold? Or closer to the lake for a more scenic and relaxing setting? Since it's so portable, it would be pretty easy to experiment.
@JonathanKuhn3 күн бұрын
You could move it around based on the season even! Since it can be varied by a couple people and there are no connections to worry about you could have it close to the lake in the summer and by the cabin in the winter?

It’s rains quite a bit where I am in Georgia. How would you keep it from getting moldy?
@JonathanKuhn3 күн бұрын
I think a rain fly is key. I also think having some dry air after a good rain is good. I would say if the trees in the area grow funk on the trucks then the tent will likely get mouldy if kept up long term.
@twatts15233 күн бұрын
@ gotcha, that makes sense. All the trees around here have funk on their trunks, lol

How do you deal with rodents?
@JonathanKuhn5 күн бұрын
Simply keeping food out of the tent has been enough to keep rodents at bay for us. I think the tent is in a pretty diverse ecosystem of predators too so there might be less rodents then places with fewer owls foxes and snakes
@MePixer9 күн бұрын
Hi Jonathan! Thanks for sharing your experience. I am also considering such tent and I am wondering if the middle pole would be attracting lighting ⚡️ during a storm?
@JonathanKuhn9 күн бұрын
I’m not sure. It’s not grounded so I I’m sure it would be any more attractive to lightning than the ground itself close by. I’ve never heard of lightning hitting one of these but I wouldn’t hold onto the pole rather during an electric storm.

i recommend going for a four season,rectangular wall tent,not crazy about round tents due to it being difficult to fully furnish if you are going to live in it full time. If you add a full kitchen,bedroom, living room,bathroom, you lose a lot of space because of the angles in a round structure.With a wall tent,you can go up with shelves along straight walls, bathtubs,showers,stoves, refrigerators, couches are all squared,not meant for round structures.A huge four season canvas tent is also half the price of your yurt tent. It's nice but insane expense for somewhere just to sleep in 😮
@JonathanKuhn11 күн бұрын
I’d love to try a rectangular tent. I’m having a hard time finding one with a zip in floor. I love that the current tent keeps out the critters well.

30 people a year in the US fall ill to tetanus. How many people live in the US?
@JonathanKuhnАй бұрын
Is that true? That’s wildly low! Are tetanus shots given out freely in the US? I wonder if it’s a case of good medicine or it’s just more rare than I assume
@FLXMobileLaserCo.Ай бұрын
@ I think Medicare insurance covers those shots. Unsure honestly if it’s good medicine or what. I thought that was interesting how low of cases there is also. Maybe we don’t need to actually get it! Anyway, I enjoy your content!
@JonathanKuhnАй бұрын
I’m surprised how low it is too! 5 people a year get it in Canada which seems higher per capita. Maybe it’s just reported more in Canada because of the healthcare system. Either way. So low. So interesting.

Your tent is temporary. I see by the design and materials this is definitely a seasonal tent. Too much plastic and vinyl which will dry out and break and plastic zippers? Next time your looking for a tent you should get off your wallet and it’s pretty simple, you get what you pay for and it’s obvious. Try and stay warm and dry.

How do you keep mice from chewing their way in and making themselves at home in your bedding?
@JonathanKuhnАй бұрын
The mice haven’t shown much interest. The only time we saw that any had come in was because we ate food in the tent. Now we just avoid that and no issues so far
@Brian_PatrickАй бұрын
@@JonathanKuhn I wish we had the same luck. We gave up keeping a 3-season tent up on our camp property because the mice chewed the shit out of it and any contents therein they thought would make good nest bedding; and we couldn't get there often enough to keep it sprayed down with mint oil to keep them out.
@JonathanKuhnАй бұрын
That’s frustrating. We have a lot of owls and predators around too so maybe they keep the mice at bay too 🤷♂️
