This is perfect. Wanted to make some benches for a friend whos' apartment burned down and he needs some outdoor furniture. Thanks for this.

Gonna use this simple design to build stacked bench like storage in a side area of my house where I have plastic bins of charcoal and other outdoor storage items. Great, simple build. Thanks.

Just remember to stow away bench seat tops if there are high wind warnings in a rural area.

I came up with a variation that's also cool. Get a 16x24 decorative patio slab (e.g. faux slate) and drop it on the same block base: instant mini bench that looks amazing. I used the same method to make a little platform (our clothesline is high) using a patio slab and just one block for the base. If you're going to stand on something though, you have to be super careful to make it stable.

So cool that you actually made one!

Just built one using some old 1x10 I had lying around. It works well and looks great. The only thing I'd add is that if you're putting it out in the garden you might want to put some crushed stone under the base to make leveling easier (if the blocks aren't level the seat will be a bit wobbly/askew and the level might change as it settles).
@JonathanKuhn Жыл бұрын
That’s a great tip I totally agree. Crushed stone is the right way to go

Painting the cinder blocks white could be a nice touch!
@Kathleeny3cf9 ай бұрын
Please help me understand the little blocks and what they do?. I thought you put them in the cinder blocks but then I saw you at the bit touched the wood at the end. These are great idea. I plan on making soon.
@JonathanKuhn9 ай бұрын
The blocks get glued to the wood. I used the cinder blocks as a template for where to put the wood blocks. This way the top boards fit into the cinder blocks with the wood bits there to keep the top boards secure and not sliding around.

I love it. How can I make a slanted backrest?
@JonathanKuhn Жыл бұрын
Not entirely sure how you would go about that using this build method. I think adding a slanted backrest will require tools and screws etc.

Question - could you just use the same glue to glue together the 2x10s to the concrete blocks? And leave out the 2x4 scraps altogether?
@JonathanKuhn5 ай бұрын
Im sure you could!
@BlackKokane70611 ай бұрын
How do you level it for sitting on concrete that isn’t level?
@JonathanKuhn7 ай бұрын
You could get some wood shims or spacers and level it out that way

2" thick boards that are 6' long, no support in the middle. Will it sag at all? I'm thinking about doing this, possibly with cedar.
@JonathanKuhn Жыл бұрын
The wider the board the less chance of sag. There has been no sag yet with this PT wood so I’m sure cedar will work well

Ok is it just me or are the blocks supposed to be 8 x 8 x 16? I can’t find the dimensions 6 x 16 x 8…
@JonathanKuhn9 ай бұрын
I think that was an option for me too. Both should work. There seems to be a difference in what’s available depending on location.

The hardware store made a cut for me but you could buy smaller wood as well.
