If situation dictates what is best way to convert the pack if need for profile restrictions
@DALEGPEKEL
@DALEGPEKEL 3 ай бұрын
That's an excellent question - We've taught and practiced a variety of techniques as situations and conditions can change: You will typically have one of 2 situations; The FF fell through a pre-existing hole or the floor gave way under their weight. In either of these situations the hole will be a size that either the FF falls easily through, narrowly falls through or one where the FF gets wedged in the hole. The situation you are inquiring about is a tight or narrow hole in which the FF barely fits through. In a situation like that we would typically use rope or webbing (which I have videos on as well on my channel) in order to minimize the space taken up by extraction equipment such as the hose line or a ladder. The concept here is if the FF fit through the hole falling through it, they should be able to fit coming back out. However if you were still worried about the scba getting hung up, one technique that you can consider (if you have a carabiner and an escape belt or seat harness) is to clip the carabiner to the top of your scba harness and then clip the carabiner to your belt or seat harness - This will allow the scba to be secured and hanging (somewhat between your legs), but will in most cases give you enough length for your MMR hose to still reach your mask. With the pack off your shoulders this reduces your profile, but can be problematic as there is a good chance the pack will still get hung up in the hole as you don't have direct control of it with it hanging off your belt or harness. This technique obviously relies on a lot of factors including the type of scba you have and the capabilty of rigging as I described. You obviously know nothing about these systems or their history - I've trained and taught the use of these systems since the late 1990's and in that time I've trained and consulted for firefighters and departmants across the globe on their use and deployment options. If you really want to learn more, do your research - I have over 40 videos on my page/channel alone that cover nearly every aspect of them and YES, videos that use actual people as the victims. This was just a quick demo as we didn't have the available personnel and belay equipment to shoot a video with actual simulated victims.

@@DALEGPEKEL You Obviously don’t do 5000-8000 calls a years. I’m a retired FDNY Lieutenant with 24 years experience and worked in busy companies including Rescue 2. I was injured during 9/11. The reason why the FDNY doesn’t use a system like yours is because when the shit hits the fan ( when the room lights up ) you don’t have time for that and it takes 4 guys to lift a 200 pound victim. It’s easy to get your little bags with NO ARMS or LEGS out that window with perfect conditions and lighting. My tag isn’t my real name. Now you know WHO you’re talking to. Good luck with your system.
@DALEGPEKEL
@DALEGPEKEL 4 ай бұрын
@@rebeccastone3301 Well Brother it speaks volumes when you use a fake name - Just an FYI: I've rode with FDNY multiple times, in both Queens and Brooklyn and I'm VERY familiar with your department. I've taught the use of these systems before your department even carried your Petzl system - Even before "Black Sunday" and the incident in the Bronx that caused FDNY to put your current system in place, we were teaching how a single system could be used to rescue more than one FF in rapid succession. Yes, in many situations you will only have seconds to get out - So self rescue is all you can hope for - However if you're as experienced as you say you are you also know that there are MANY variables in a fire and you can have a significant amount of time to before you need to bailout with the gear we have today - As compared to the time an "unprotected" civilian has or a fellow FF who has run out of air. I have over 40 videos on these systems on my channel - Before you criticize the one you watched with sand bags take a look at the others with live FFs and 225 lb. dead weight training manikins. Just curious; Have you even tried using your Petzl system for victim rescue? - I have, as well as most of the other sytems that are currently available. The Petzl EXO is decent, as is its anchor hook, but neither provide the same versatility as other descenders and anchor hooks that are out there. I've put my real name out there for years on KZbin, Facebook and multiple other social media sites - I post and share what I do not to offend others, but to help our fellow Brothers and Sisters be better and safer at their job - I do this because my Dad lost two friends and fellow FFs at a fire he was at and I've had a share of closs calls myself as well as other friends and colleagues of mine. You guys are more fortunate than most - Having 5 FFs on an Engine and 6 on a Truck or Rescue gives you a lot more capability than most FDs in the country, but even so you should appreciate having options and being able to adapt - That's what a lot of the videos I produce and post have to do with.......Now you know a little about me and who you're talking to. May God bless and keep you and the FDNY safe - Good day.

@@DALEGPEKEL I purposely use a fake tag to see the responses I get. If you want to keep this respectful I strongly suggest you back off. Black Friday … if you listen closely to the radios while watching the video… the Roof Men ( who should have had the Life Rope ) already on the roof and the BC don’t respond to the MayDay. The fire 🔥 was already burning them. That’s why they ( all 6 ) jumped. FDNY RESCUES 1-5 use the ROLLGLISS SYSTEM. You can’t use it, like your system, inside a burning apartment. Yes the helmet strap is fully extended - If your lid has a short chin strap there are companies that make custom ones that are much longer - which can make the lid flip technique easier to perfrom. Here's a video I made quite a few years ago that breakes down some other tips you can use. I find sometimes that the hood gets caught up in the helmet strap when bringing up my hood.
@DALEGPEKEL
@DALEGPEKEL 4 ай бұрын
Yeah I use to have the same problem when I first started - I find that if I pull the helmet strap under my chin and below the opening of my hood before I flip the helmet behind my head that helps. I also tend to drop my helmet off to my left side as this is the side that I first grab the opening of my hood on which helps to keep slack in the helmet strap on this side of my head and face, making it easier to find the opening of my hood on the left. When I first don my hood I will push most of the fabric off to my right side behind my head, which helps to reduce grabbing too much fabric and missing the opening when I'm pulling the hood over my head and mask. If this still doesn't work you can try installina a longer helmet strap or switch to the "Arm Sling" method - Keep practicing and good luck!

What are not works just as well with flat webbing as it does with tubular webbing. The tales of the night will shorten over time with use the key with webbing is that the tails coming out of the knot should be the width of your palm or three to four inches long. If they start to shorten less than that the knot should be retired and then I always cinch it down tightly afterwards to help seat the knot and reduce the likelihood of it loosening

It's a great question and I'd have to save to this point never - Unfortunately most Firefighters in the USA, much less the rest of the world don't carry these types of systems. The ones that do typically only train on self rescue and not on how to use their system for victim rescue. I've been carrying and teaching the use of these systems since the late 1990's and to date I know of only one case where firefighters used their system to help rescue a civilian and it was not only successful, but heroic as well. Reqardless on how rare it might be, in my opinion if Firefighters carry these systems they should train on them to their full capability - After all we're in the business of saving lives and I want all the options I can have at my disposal to do so.
