The whole 'treat it as data' mindset is such a game-changer. It’s way too easy to spiral after a mistake, but shifting to that chair umpire perspective really takes the pressure off. Staying neutral mentally can make or break a match. Solid video!

Nice video for a club level player like myself who is still just trying to get the overhead in 😅 - I will work on getting to the level where there actually is a plan!

Jorge, my toughest volley shot is what I call the jamb volley. The ones that come hard right at the body and at or just below my chest. I hit them as a backhand and I'll only have time to try and block the shot, but I have a natural tendency to chop downward and then I typically frame it. Any suggestions on how to hit those better? (Also, did you do a fundamental coaching workshop in Arizona last December?)

People see things differently. If a pattern developed, I played a player that whenever a ball lands near a line 5hey called it out. On the third call I simply stated that any ball near the line you call out. If I feel compelled to ask a second time the advice here is very good. A third time establishes a pattern. That’s when action must be taken . Asking someone near to call lines may not work if they are friends of the players. I’ve never walked off the court but your opponent must believe that you are willing to walk off otherwise bullies will take over getting into your head thus throwing you off. John McEnroe bullied all the time.

Cannot agree more. This is my mentality as well. If I do only 1 thing better than my opponent, I beat him 99% of the cases.

Oh God, I've worked hard for years which you know and i want her so much to be a part of my dreams but why is she keep slowing things down when it comes our relationship fruition???!! I don't even want to believe that she doesn't want to be a part of it because her larger subconscious mind is excluding me denying/defying her excited conscious mind!!

Tried this with my gf, i’ve played since i was 7 so i quickly got to top spin and back spin on each side and flipping back and forth. i taught her how to do it and she got to alternating both sides! great drill and it’s really helping her learn touch and hand eye coordination with the racket! thank you!

This is very good advice. Especially for younger kids and for short drills. Doing all three shouts is hard for breathing and mentally for a longer time. For longer practice it’s better to replace to just split-hit (or grunt instead of saying Hit) or to only Split or only Bounce - depending what action needs an improvement. This way kids can play a full set with verbal timing.

Another positive thing to think about is the fact that even though you missed the backhand down the line in your example, the opponent still has to consider that shot as a possibility for the rest of the game. So even missed shots ask a question to the opponent in terms of strategy and game play

has anyone noticed her technique is different then her sisters? Serena has a ATP stype, pat the dog forehand while venus raquet is open the whole swing. Also, serena has a small loop on herbackhand while Venus has straight take back.

Great opportunity, Jorge, to add pressure to your practice matches. I also like giving my opponent regular add scoring, but if I lose 2 points in a row I lose the game, ie I'm up 40- love and dump a forehand into the net it's not 40-15 it's add out. A lot of game points being played You can also use it to handicap players at different levels.

Yes, I think it's correct. In observation there is no judgment, no goal to achieve, no effort to become, not trying but just observation, therefore no conflict, no fear. And from that clarity maybe a more accurate action arises. But it is the most incredibly difficult thing. But sometimes it happens. Not saying I'm free from judgment at all but I do notice that free action in the very few moments when I was so lucky to be just observing; better shots, and vibrant games.

limit junior tennis tournaments,,,,,,,, IMHO as a professional coach worked with mens wimbledon doubles champion I would suggest to anyone forget the winning and learn the strokes, You learn the alphabet first when learning to write ... Too many people want to win or just hit the ball..Vic Braden books are a good read
