Curved platforms with high steps onto train/gaps ? Unusual. Gotta say every single platform in perth is perfectly in line with the train.

Not all stations are like that some stations have the platforms aligned with the train but for about 2.5m in either direction from the lifts

you guys are so lucky, the trains and the network in Victoria has to be the worst in the world. The vehicles are rubbish, the best are saved for the Eastern suburbs where all the politicians live of course, everywhere else gets the rubbish and as just as the level crossing removal, the Eastern suburbs are getting the level crossings put underground and the rest, is going what's called "Skyrail" (a 9 metre overhead concrete calamity) because it's a cheap alternative. There was no consultation, the government just bullied everyone, we had no say.

I live in Brisbane at the moment, and let me tell you, the system in Melbourne is 1,000,000,000x better than Brisbane's. There's delays and cancellations everyday, in the last year, there have been a dozen or so major network meltdowns, and the Go-Card fares are an absolute joke; a trip using bus and train into the city from Narangba costs me almost $10. Not to mention the clusterfuck bottleneck that is the South Brisbane-Roma Street, where trains on three electric lines, freight trains, and the Sydney-Brisbane XPT all converge just a mere TWO tracks. Luckily, the Cross-River Rail project is under construction to relieve that, but the network here is definitely NOT better than Melbourne's. Not by a long shot.
@iwenttobunnings78686 жыл бұрын
Also, not to mention that the network is physically dirty and severely aged; look at a photo of Roma Street, then look at a photo of Southern Cross, and tell me that Brisbane's looks better. 99% of stations in Brisbane look like they haven't been refurbished since the 1960's/1970's.
@georgesteel61086 жыл бұрын
I went to Bunnings Brisbane has one of the better public transport systems in Australia. They are demolishing and rebuilding Roma Street to accommodated Brisbane Live and Brisbane Metro, so there’s no point refurbishing it. They’ve started refurbishing Central, but that’s just going to take a long time due to the huge usage that Station gets. As to delays and cancellations, I’m not sure which line you’re on, but they’ve gotten a lot better since rail-fail and it wasn’t ever that bad anyway (plus, peak frequency is as good or better than Sydney and Melbourne on most major lines)

This is an outstanding piece of footage. Smooth and shot well. We're hoping to make a video about steam train Sunday on our own chennel and this kind of footage is exactly what we would aim to use. When our schedule allows, we'll be seeking to get information about this service if it's still running.

You're welcome. I've been a "trainee driver" since late 2011. All going well I should be finished training early next month (Assessment starts the end of this month). Over the last 10 months I've been learning the entire suburban network. Part of our assessment is calling the entire line by memory - Every station, level crossing, and accurate locations of signals, speed boards etc. to the point I can verbally walk you through the route. I know Central platform 4 well - 10km/h is painful!
@7urbin312 жыл бұрын
With our suburban fleet (depending on the boarded speed limit, track profile and individual unit performance) we target the start of each platform at 60km/h reducing to a target of 40km/h at the middle and a stop at the 6 car stopping mark using the preferred braking method (Brake controller in Initial 1-3 seconds, then half service - adjusting as required). As for the IMU171 on platform 4 at Central, the boarded speed is 10km/h due to the sharp curvature through the points before the platform.
