Have you read the "Swords Of Steel" series that was published by DMR Books? It's a collection of short stories written by heavy metal musicians.

Congrats on an awesome year. I think with audiobooks I ended up with around 90 books. My favorite was Demon in White. Next year I’m hoping to finish WoT and really try to read some new authors and fantasy series I’ve heard about but never tried

How do you keep your book spines so nice mine always look awful when I get done with them.
@caleblikesbooks
@caleblikesbooks 14 күн бұрын
It’s not actually something I pay a ton of attention to. Some books crack the spines easier than others, so I guess sometimes they just don’t get messed up. I do have plenty of books where the spines look a little rough, though

Hi Caleb That looks like an exciting list. Like you, I plan to read some Stephen King next year (I've just finished You Like It Darker) and will read Dead Zone next year. I like the idea of reading non-Star Wars fiction by the authors of Star Wars fiction. I have done similar things over the years, and it is a great way to find new fiction, sometimes even genres. I am looking forward to updates on how we're getting on. Happy Reading!

This book, darth bane trillogy and the thrawn trilogy are peak legends content. All of them are 10/10. I also put dark lord the rise of darth vader and yoda dark rendezvous on the same general level or just one tier below.

@caleblikesbooks
@caleblikesbooks 28 күн бұрын
I would recommend reading them in that order. Theoretically you can read Era 2 first, but I think it is more interesting if it goes after Era 1, plus it does spoil Era 1 quite significantly

Hey, I just finished the Hero of ages. Just got myself a Secret History, and only now found out that there is Era 2. Should I read the Secret History and then go into Era 2 or vice versa?
@caleblikesbooks
@caleblikesbooks 29 күн бұрын
It’s really up to you-most people recommend either after The Hero of Ages or after The Bands of Mourning, which is the third book of Era 2. Secret History ties in heavily to Era 1, but it does spoil a reveal in Bands. But if that spoiler doesn’t bother you too much, then I would recommend reading it now as it expands very nicely on the trilogy

I read almost all of the Cosmere this past year, I was reading era 2 in between The Stormlight Archive books. So by the time I got to The Lost Metal, I knew the major tie-ins to the Cosmere. I agree that The Well of Ascension does not get enough love, The Well of Ascension was my number one until The Lost Metal.

I have a very unpopular ranking of this series: 1. Alloy of Law 2. The Lost Metal 3. Shadows of Self 4. The Last Empire 5. Shadows of Self 6. Hero of Ages 7. The Well of Ascension I just really loved era 2 and the setting but they’re all great books
@caleblikesbooks
@caleblikesbooks Ай бұрын
Looks like you got Shadows of Self there twice! Lol Era 2 is great though. I probably prefer Era 1 overall but I love the way Era 2 advances the technology, and how the Era 1 characters and events are the basis for religions and legends. Super cool

So I’ve got Wind and Truth, Assassins Apprentice, Star Wars the High Republic Temptation of the Force and Dune Battle of Corrin on my December TBR. I think the only book I’ve read of your December TBR was Darth Bane (that was a while ago). I think I started the YA THR novel but like most of the YA novels in the series it just wasn’t doing much for me and I think I DNF’d it but hopefully you like it

I'm a nerd that's never really picked up a book in my life. I've seen all the Star Wars movies and decided to jump in raw with the Thrawn trilogy with 'Heir to the Empire'. So far I have zero regrets. If you're like me, either new to reading or to reading Star Wars books, just trust me and leap head first with Heir to the Empire. It takes place just after the last movie in George Lucas' original trilogy and the books themselves were approved for release by George Lucas. It's basically 'official' up until Disney bought Star Wars and said 'no it's not!' from my understanding.
@ignskeletons
@ignskeletons Ай бұрын
I wasn't 100% happy with what Disney did with their Rey trilogy so in my mind I like to imagine these Thrawn book trilogy as that saga that took place after Return of the Jedi instead of what Disney gave us. That's the fun of these books is that the 'reality' can be whatever you want in your head. Maybe you like Rey Skywalker saga, maybe you like the books from the 90's. Maybe a mix of both. It's totally up to you to decide what Star Wars means to you personally.
@caleblikesbooks
@caleblikesbooks Ай бұрын
This is my perspective as well. I happen to enjoy both the new trilogy and the EU books, so I just look at them as two different but equally valid and interesting versions of Star Wars. And for those who aren’t as much into the new stuff, they can always go back to these books and experience something that might appeal to them more!
