Small mistake at about 1:40: を is now exclusively used as a direct object marker, not a subject marker (which goes to either は or が, depending on the sentence structure).

The small ラリルレロ are used in Ainu because the final '-r' typically duplicates the previous vowel. Golden Kamuy watchers might notice Asirpa's name is pronounced as 'アシリパ / As(h)iripa', which is actually correct Ainu pronunciation, and explains why it's not Japanese-ified as 'asirupa'

Read an article published as recently as this year; there’s still no legal repercussions if you don’t pay the receiving IF you never sign a receiving fee contract. However, you are supposed to sign the contract if you own a TV in your home. Hence the loophole. So overall, you either pay the 12275円 yearly annual fee, or you put that money back in your pocket and learn to live with someone banging on your door telling you to sign on the dotted line every couple of days.

@@XiaosChannel It's a different style of cursive writing, that is not taught in school anymore. The letters are sometimes written/look completely different. The Kurrent-typeface is the cursive version of "Fraktur" which still can be read by most people. The current cursive handwriting style (that is still taught in school) is almost indistinguishable from cursive handwriting used in english speaking countries. Here's the wikipedia article: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurrent

Since you asked how we’ve been… I’ve started to take Japanese more seriously and I’m now studying for N3. I couldn’t go to the N4 exam because where I am they only do it on December tho, so I’m also looking forward to that. Your kana videos are part of why I like studying Japanese, the oddities and history one finds about the language are really interesting. Hope to see your videos soon. PD: A new channel (FreeBirdJP) uploaded a video about strange kana and gave a shoutout to your series.

motivation is really important when it comes to learning a foreign language, so i am glad it helped! N3 is a formidable goal to attempt, it was my first JLPT as well, before I took N1. Good luck with your learning journey! the kana video will be the one after the next. Yeah I knew about him, we talked about it, and this channel did get a lot of traffic from him, i can see in my dashboard

Dakuten あ doesn’t have a unique IPA sound, nor could it ever have one. The diacritic sound is constrictive on the vowels. It can be any sound you want it to be. It just needs to be guttural or deep. The pitch or how you produce the sound is up to interpretation

る゛and this? I saw it in a chapter of one piece, When he shouts "I have my crew!"
@iNsOmNiAcAnDrEw4 ай бұрын
It's all pretty interesting but I think diacritics for vowels might be more useful. I mean, the 'hard A' sound just sounding like 'AG or AH' or something like that instead of 'A' is disappointing. I was hoping it is more like the A in 'cat' or 'hat', etc. Maybe it could be used to mean that though, but I know they tend to try to approximate the pronunciation with 'ya' which feels weak to me.
@magiconic6 ай бұрын
Ive only ever seen あ/ま/い etc. With the dakuten online, and i also got the impression it was like a moan, but i had also learned the dakuten basically changes a kana's sound from unvoiced to voiced (for example, the s from さ is just breathing, while the z from ざ is the same mouth movement but where you use your vocal chords) so i kind of applied that logic to the unusual ones. In a way, it still makes sense in my mind

Explanation I was given as a child was that katakana was standardised far earlier than hiragana because katakana was used by Buddhist monks who used katakana as pronunciation key for Buddhist sutras written in Chinese. Consequently, there are far fewer hentaigana for katakana.
