Thank you for interviewing Ron. He's AMAZING! And yes, Matt Bomer gives John Hamm + Henry Cavil vibes. As for Jonathan, he's hot, witty, charismatic, & talented. I so felt FELLOW TRAVELERS and I'm a straight divorcée Mom. I would love it if Ron wrote something with MATTHEW GOODE in mind. He's phenomenal ("Leap Year", "The Crown" [Snowden], & "THE OFFER" [brilliant Paramount limited series]).

Since I have not had the time to watch "Sugar", I have had to recuse myself from listening to many of your recent episodes to avoid spoiling the experience. Just an FYI. Not sure if the "watch-along" thing works to include more listeners, or to exclude them. Otherwise, I'm all ears.
@SteveMason-wy4hoАй бұрын
Totally understand. It's an experiment. Definitely recommend Sugar. I think we're gonna try another watch-along for House of the Dragon.... Will still put out plenty of our regular shows too. Thanks for watching the show!

Breathe is one of my all time favorite movies. It’s such a breath of fresh air and simple but says so much. The two boys & the man who takes them under his wing but doesn’t want to at first. Anything Simon Baker does, I love that , he changes with every film he makes & they are so real life. I had to chase a few of his films like Breath & I then had to buy the movie just so I can watch it anytime I want. We take a vacationing northern Wisconsin in my husband’s family cabin & it now has all the modern conveniences like a DVD player. So that said, I’m a big fan of your work Simon, you are so real in every role you do. All very different from the other. I did see The Mentalist which was very good, but of course it was way too much Hollywood. Keep doing what you do best & I can’t wait to see Limbo.It looks like it’s just the thing I love, dark & foreboding. Tones of Blue Velvet.

I understand that 2 hours is a short period of time to deal with such a complex figure, but I really feel like their presentation of Bob Marley didn’t approach the musical, spiritual, and political depth that the real life man had. I thought the plot also dragged along at some points, and the flash back sequences didn’t really work, especially the whole thing about his father. They felt disjointed. The conflict/history with his manager was poorly explained and somewhat confusing. I think the heavy handed involvement of Ziggy (that little announcement from him at the start of the film, saying how he was on set nearly every day) led to an over-glorification of Marley, and barely touched on some of the more complicated aspects of his life (extramarital affairs, pan-Africanism). I did think they made good decisions in pushing the weed smoking aspect into the background, and examining how religious of a man Marley was. This is lost on many Americans. There aspects that I enjoyed the most included getting to hear his best songs on a huge movie theatre sound system, the portrayal of Rita (Lashana Lynch should see some nominations next awards cycle), and the choice to film the Jamaican scenes in Jamaica. Kingsley Ben-Adir did a nice job of recreating Marley’s performances. Overall I was entertained, but I wouldn’t put this is the annals of an artist’s history, like you can with other biopics.

Hey Mase, big fan here. With all due respect, I've heard you mention "the hero's journey" twice now, both on the podcast and on the M&I show, and then credit Joseph Conrad with it. While the "Heart of Darkness" may be a tale of such; TMK I think you are meaning to credit Joseph Campbell and his teachings. Please LMK if I'm mistaken, and if so I will stand corrected. I plan to visit his museum soon on my way down, or back up.
@SteveMason-wy4ho5 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right! It is Joseph Campbell. Thanks for pointing it out. And thanks for following both shows!
