Kits have come along way since I was kid in the 50's, just wondering could you make one side of the cabin hinge from bottom, to give your self more room to get to the servos?
@MarkCroucherRC4funСағат бұрын
It's tight but not impossible, in my view opening up the side would weaken the structure too much.

I have been told that laser cutting burns the wood, the dark side of each piece, and because of that the glue may not stick completely to the surface. Some recommends to sand each face going to be glued. What is your experience ? feedback ? Thanks.
@MarkCroucherRC4fun4 сағат бұрын
I don't frankly find it a problem any "soot" binds with the glue to form a strong bond with CA and white glue . It might even act as a filler at the joint, just a thought 🤔.

Excellent tutorial! I've been watching all your polyester covering videos on loop😅😅!! I'm busy building a 1/4 scale Macchi M.16, and I want to try this technique! I do have a few questions though as the Macchi will be working with wing warping. 1. How rigid is the finish with the dope? Does the wing become really stiff? Will I still be able to warp it. 2. Is shrinking dope 100% necessary? I'm currently living in Italy and having difficulty finding dope, can I replace the dope with something else? 3. For as gas/petrol engine, what do you use for fuel proofing? Sorry for all the questions! Thank you for all the great tutorials! You're a master!
@MarkCroucherRC4fun19 сағат бұрын
No master at all I simply like to try new things. I have been aiming at a rigid wing so I don't know how flexible a doped wing could be . The dope is simply to seal the weave ,I'd try a polyurethane varnish on a test sample (old wing perhaps ). Gas /petrol is less corrosive than glow fuel a good starting point would be an acrylic car varnish. I look forward to hearing how your experiments go.
@jannesbosman86510 сағат бұрын
@@MarkCroucherRC4fun Thank you so much for your reply. I'll definitely order some polyester and start experimenting! Hopefully I'll manage to find a method that's not too rigid. Thanks again and happy building!

Looking forward to your build Mark. A bloke in my club has built one and covered it in brown paper with water-based paint over the top. It flies well on an OS 40. Mind you he's an experienced builder! Your mate Roy would have been better off with a Ben Buckle Super 60 or Junior 60, or perhaps even a Radio Queen in my opinion. Slab sided fuselages and parellel chord wings would have made the build easier. I hope he will be standing at your shoulder so that he may see how things are done. SLEC have taken over Belair kits.They sell a range of short-kits at very reasonable prices. They offer the the Super 60 and the Junior 60 as well as Vic Smeed's Tomboy another model with a slab sided fuselage and a parallel chord wing originally designed for the novice builder. I have a soft spot for the Junior 60, it was my first successful r/c model. I am about to start building my third. I intend to power it with a 2.5cc engine.

Hiya Mark, how effective is the guild fuel proofer? Finding good paint for glow models is dificult. I have a few unfinished as i carnt decide on the finish, but im considering a trip up to B&Q now. Also do you use the proofer in the spray can or from the tin?

Hey Mark Is that the Jungmeister from Dave Platt 1/4 scale 65" plans? You'll no doubt remember they started life with a 90 two stroke. Then 120 FS and in more recent years even 30cc petrol jobs. Fantastic fuselage and tail feathers design. Just boxes and sheets with decking, stringers and ribs applied. Light and extremely strong and straight. I made all except wings many years ago. Still in my collection of to be finished planes. Avoided wings due to concerns about flexi single piece rectangular section spars (no I beams)..…. Bracing wires would sort it for sure........ But........ Life distracts..... So many of these have been built it is likely to be totally ok. There are third scale plans available too. Just quarter scale resized. Lovely model there. Love your club's enthusiasm just like old days in the 70s and 80s. Anyway thank you for another blast from the past Regards Michael (Syd/Aus)
