PS - Seeing that "SARStock Concert" clip reminds me of a story Neil Peart wrote in one of his books about meeting the Stones' legendary drummer, Charlie Watts, that day. Here's a story about it from the "Ultimate Classic Rock" web site: WHEN CHARLIE WATTS SURPRISED NEIL PEART BACKSTAGE Corey Irwin Published: August 25, 2021 In 2003, Neil Peart came face-to-face with one of his idols, the Rolling Stones’ Charlie Watts. At first, the Rush drummer didn’t realize who was approaching him. “A short, older man stepped up to me, sticking out his hand and saying something I couldn't hear,” Peart recalled in his book Traveling Music : The Soundtrack to My Life and Times. “Thinking ‘Now who's this?’ I took out one of my ear monitors and said ‘Sorry, I couldn't hear you.’ He spoke again, smiling, ‘Hello, I'm Charlie Watts.’" On July 30, 2003, the Rolling Stones were headlining Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto, a benefit concert aimed at helping the city’s economy recover following a SARS outbreak earlier that year. More than 400,000 people turned out to see the Stones, as well as the Guess Who, Rush and AC/DC. Though they were on the same lineup, Peart was still caught off guard when Watts surprised him backstage. “‘Oh!’ I said, taken aback, ‘Hello.’ And I shook his hand,” the Rush recalled. “He asked if we were going on soon, and I said yes, any minute, and he said, with a twinkle, ‘I'm going to watch you!’” Peart went on to admit that such a comment could have messed with his head, had he not already been restless prior to the performance. “I suppose if I could have felt more pressured, that might have done it, but I was already at maximum intensity," he explained. "There was no time to think of Charlie Watts and the Rolling Stones, watching them on The T.A.M.I Show or Ed Sullivan when I was twelve-and-a-half, hearing 'Satisfaction' snarling down the midway at Lakeside Park, 'Gimme Shelter' at the cinema in London, listening to Charlie's beautiful solo album, Warm and Tender, so many times late at night in Quebec, or any of the other million times Charlie Watts and his band had been part of my life.” As Rush took the stage and began their set, Peart did his best to ignore the “gray-haired Englishman at stage left.” Later, when his band played a brief instrumental version of “Paint it Black,” Peart again thought of Watts, but deduced that the Stones drummer “seemed to have left by then - having seen and heard enough, no doubt, whatever his impression was.” Several technical difficulties would mar Rush’s performance during the benefit event. Later, Geddy Lee would recount the most memorable part of the night in an email to Peart. "BTW, I will never forget that moment before we went onstage when Charlie Watts came over to shake your hand (at the worst possible moment!),” Lee wrote, “and watching your face go through all the motions of... a. who is this old guy? b. what does he want? c. oh for god's sake it's Charlie Watts!"

The third video was recorded in Toronto in 2003 [not 2023] at a massive suburban park made out of a (then) recently decommissioned air force base. Here's the back-story: Before there was SARS-COVID-2, there was SARS-COVID-1. Both illnesses came from China without warning (thanks to Chinese communist bureaucracy). The first one was more deadly but not nearly as transmissible as the one we all just suffered through from 2020 onwards. One of the places SARS-COVID-I struck was Toronto. Its tourism industry was decimated by a WHO declaration in the Spring of 2023 and so some local politicians and business people decided to hold a concert to attract people back to the city and celebrate the medical responders' work. The Rolling Stones have a very long and strong relationship with the City of Toronto, which they frequently used as a rehearsal location for world tours. They were happy to pitch in, when asked, and brought AC/DC along with them, since the two bands were touring at the time. The concert soon morphed into a day-long event featuring many other bands. Canadian Comedy legend Dan Akroyd agreed to host (and played a few songs with his old Blues Brothers Movie band). The finishing touch for the lineup was Toronto's own Rush. The estimated crowd size was between 450,000 and 500,000. And I was one of them! It would be the first and only time I would see either the Stones or AC/DC, but not Rush. I saw them a lot more than once between 1984 and 2015. Fun fact: that wasn't the largest crowd to assemble at Downsview Park (which has since been further developed). No, the "act" that drew the highest attendance (estimated at upwards of 750,000) was none other than Pope John Paul II!

That second video was the beginning of the R30 Concert, recorded in Frankfurt. It's a six-part medley leading into The Spirit of Radio. Each of the six parts represented a song from each of their first six albums: 1. Finding My Way (from Rush, 1974) 2. Anthem (Fly by Night, 1975) 3. Bastille Day (Caress of Steel, 1975) 4. A Passage to Bangkok (2112, 1976) 5. Cygnus X-1, Book One: The Voyage (A Farewell to Kings, 1977) 6. Cygnus X-1, Book Two: Hemispheres (Hemispheres, 1978) The Spirit of Radio was the lead track on 1979's Permanent Waves. This is what a band with (by then) 16 studio albums has to do to include something for everyone! I saw the same concert in Toronto.

Marko Hietala - Bass, vocals Tuomas Wäinölä - guitar + producer Vili Ollila - Keys Anssi Nykänen - drums The exact same band as on Marko's first solo album, Pyre of the Black Heart, 5 years ago. There is both a Finnish and an English language version of the album. As far as I know the main writer, music and lyrics, of this song is Marko, propably with some assistance from others. I once read that Tuomas has played over 4 000 gigs. If a TV show in Finland needs a guitarist for the house band, many times they ask Tuomas. The drummer Anssi has played on thousands of tracks in studio. Last aitumn Marko, Tuomas and Anneke van Giersbergen from The Netherlands, toured South America as an acoustic trio, one month 20 concerts. They all played acoustic guitar, Marko and Anneke sang lead vocals, Tuomas backing vocals. Anneke and Marko had their own sets, and a 3rd set together.

The hand thing relates to geddy doing that live in concert to get people to clap their hands during that part. It basically represents clapping hands. Later on as they got older, half the audience would be doing the same motion rather than clapping The second song I think was 2004 from their 30th anniversary. So the medley was songs from their first set of albums before ending with spirit of radio. Last song was from a big concert in Toronto to help raise money for SARS relief as that disease hit Canada pretty bad. The Rolling Stones were the headliners I believe so a lot of bands did brief tributes to them hence the paint it black.

The first live clip you saw was from the R30 Tour video, filmed in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2004. The intro consists of the following song clips from their first six albums: Finding My Way (Rush) Anthem (Fly By Night) Bastille Day (Caress Of Steel) A Passage To Bangkok (2112) Cygnus X-1 Book 1: The Voyage (A Farewell To Kings) Cygnus X-1 Book 2: Hemispheres Prelude (Hemispheres) The second live clip you saw was from a benefit concert organized by The Rolling Stones in support of Toronto's tourism industry after the first SARS outbreak, hence the section from Paint It Black that you heard at the beginning. For another highlight from the R30 Tour, I'd like to recommend Mystic Rhythms off their 1985 album Power Windows, an example of their mid 1980s sound. Cheers from Toronto! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐

israel has occupied and massacred Palestinians for 75 years so no it was never abous h*mas nor the hostages. And gen*c*de is never justifiable no matter what. Also had israel wanted the israeli hostages would have been home months ago with ceasefire deal but they have refused because they would rather m*rder Palestinians than save their own people. Also what about the 10 000 Palestinians that are hostages in israel prisons being tortured and r*ped? Is that also self-defence?
@weedlander
@weedlander 5 күн бұрын
the hamas is the one who refused to talk about the hostages and hostages are being found dead ... in palestine kids are tought and raised to hate america and everything western .. raised for djihad .. the dont tolerate anything ... or anyone ... they are raised to hate... but as i said there is 2 sides to each medal ... and its not somthing to talk about even .. there is no winners in war and everyone is suffering ... so ofc i understand what you are saying...no tbh at this point it seems like revenge ...for all palestinians that were raised to become terrorist that raped innocent tourists or went and did terror in europe and usa ... im not justifying it ... at the end its all people taking up arms and thats the sad part that they keep turning us against eachother while they get richer ..
@suibian9467
@suibian9467 5 күн бұрын
@@weedlander hamas has accepted multiple different ceasefire deals but netanyahu keeps demanding more and adding conditions. Documents about this were just released look it up. I wonder why they hate israel and the west could it possible have something to do about the massacres and occupation? Did you know that most of the Gazan population are the descendents of 1948 Nakba massacre/ethnic cleansing? So the place is literally huge refugee camp turned into open air prison camp by israelies with their 16 years of siege of the place. There is no two sides: there is the invaders and the invaded. And actually by international law israel does not have the right to self-defense from the people they occupy because they haven't fulfilled any of their obligations as a occupying force there are rules regulating that too you can look it up. It's racist logic justifying murdering kids because they are "taught to hate us". Again there is no justification killing civilians especially kids. There is no evidence of any kind of sexual violence happening on oct 7th nor were 40 babies beheaded or put into oven. That is literally just israeli propaganda proved false by multiple sources including israeli newspapers. Also resistance is not terrorism and labeling every palestinian terrorist anyway is just incredibly racist.
