I think to solve the ink color issue octolings could have their colors represent splatfest colors. Like gold and silver for chaos vs order, red and off-white for ketchup vs mustard, etc. Maybe even make the ink glow to differentiate from inklings just like the ink does in splatfests! re: Ass Egg - that's not actually a very good interpretation of the Japanese name. 穴・ケツ・ketsu is a term that means butt/rear/ass, various levels of formality for different contexts. お・o provides a sense of formality/humility/deference depending on the context in which it is used. And 卵・タマゴ・tamago just means egg. So overall, "Rear Egg" is a much more accurate translation for the original Japanese name.

Fun fact for those who haven't played splatoon, the inkling's up and down taunts are the "this way" and "booyah" emotes from splatoon which are activated by the exact same buttons as smash. Side taunt is a smash original though because left and right on the dpad does nothing in splatoon. Still cool tho
