I think it's actually hydrogen gas generated through the electrolysis. Think of a lead acid battery, it generates hydrogen gas, not sulfur dioxide as far as I know..

When I used concentrated Nitric acid to dissolve the base metal in the watch cases,it was a very heavy exothermic reaction with a lot of Nitrous fumes,I was really scared!! Should I dilute the acid ?

Hi, that’s exactly how it works. If you use diluted acid you will have slower reaction, less fumes, acid will be used more effectively. So, if you are fine reaction to be slower, lower nitric acid concentration has all advantages.

Sulfates then drop it down to oxides with sugar or syrup after the lye you should get a mirror glaze on the glass when the i believe exothermic reaction takes place. Ir its hot i forget but either case a few near steps. I love the silver chloride how it looks on it's own lol

I have tried to warm the sulphuric acid as you suggest but have had no luck. Hot hot do you get the liquid to. I am wary to heat it too much because of the horror stories I have heard about boiling sulphuric acid.

Boiling point of the conc. sulfuric acid is above 330 degrees Celsius, so it needs quite a lot of heating to boil. Always stay on the safe side. If not comfortable to boil it, just wait gold dust to go to the bottom.

@@escrapchannel totally! From the stories I have heard things get pretty crazy at 330 degrees without the correct tools and environment. Not a thing most people are prepared for. I didn't have a IR thermometer before but since I do now I took it to 120 and still not getting that result. What temperature did you have to get it to? Is it 250 as the text sort of suggests?

@gregdickson5107 Hi, heating sulphuric acid is dangerous. To coagulate gold I heat it to boiling point, unfortunately I did not measure the actual temperature.

@@gregdickson5107 Hi, I was surprised to see how gold dust coagulated into big peace’s. Hope you get some effect. In general I know some people add sulphuric acid when precipitating gold from aqua Regia to get coagulated in big peace’s result instead of gold dust.

@@escrapchannel I got it from a friend and it is supposed to be 98% but It is old so perhaps it has absorbed some water. Is there a way to test this? Alternatively how about using stainless on both sides as the cage is only really conducting the electricity after all.

@@gregdickson5107 Hi, long time ago I tested different materials for the basket and stainless did not work. It was destroyed in the cell. Copper is inert in concentrated sulphuric acid and not reacting. Sulphuric acid is dense and one option to check percentage is to check density. Measure weight and volume and calculate it. No option to buy concentrated acid?

@@escrapchannel Thanks it looks like my sulphric acid was not as concentrated as I thought. Also as I didn't watch it constantly I think the current went really high and with that the temperature. High temperature makes the copper react with the sulphuric acid. After a few more tries were I also restricted the current so the watts stayed around 6 the temperature stayed nice and low and the basket came out fine. I have learned a lot this week. Thanks for your help.

@@timothybourque7999 Hi, the issue with lead is that there is no easy and clean way to take gold from it. Probably the best way to separate gold from lead is to put the melt in a cement crucible and heat in an oven. There are videos on KZbin on it. Lead evaporates and a good bean is left. But lead fumes are toxic!!! So, it is done in controlled environment.

@escrapchannel what is the solution for gold precipitation with zinc? I am having same trouble as you had in this video. Does adjusting the ph to 14 works or ph should be 5 as mentioned by @joek511. Also if this is cyanide based reagent, wont heating or making the solution acidic release toxic hydrogen cyanide.

Hi, per the shipment documentation solution should contain cyanide, so I would not add acid. I usually add 2-4g NaOH to increase the pH to above 12 and then the zinc powder does the cementation.

@@HardKnocksTime you may have silver in the solution. Take 1ml and add table salt. There are two parts of the process: silver goes to the solution and some parts of the plating may fall too.

@escrapchannel I had a very very dirty solution doing the 12v 6amp. I did use salt and distilled water. It was horrible. So much base metal in solution. I have non-iodized salt and distilled water here. I am going to try the voltage you have recommended. How long should I let it deplate before removing it and brushing?

@@HardKnocksTime wait, please! Salt? It will never work with salt in the solution. Thats the reason for the base metal quickly moving to solution. Please use Na2SO3 - 60g per litre distilled water. It will keep reaction smooth at the. Outage in the video.

@@antoniokasabov9364 Здравей! Когато спре реакцията - отделянето на мехурчета или се е изразходвала азотната или се е разтворил метала от часовниковите каси. Изваждам ги, промивам и слагам отново в азотна. Ако реакцията рестартира бурно, значи има останал доста метал за разтваряне. Ако се появи съвсем слабо оцветяване, значи сме на финала.

Hi, big ones have 0.03-0.05g of gold each, so more or less the most valuable elements. But the bolts were cut in this case.
