Nobodys talking about the bottom not attaching. this is a highway for some bug entry
@Trailvagabonds23 күн бұрын
We have never had issues with bugs getting in the bottom, even when there is some light coming from there. There is actually an explanation from Van Essential about how this isn’t a problem because bugs vision doesn’t work in that way. I’m not sure if any of the other brands on the market have a solution to this. It might just be more annoying with some form of closure there. You could always explore magnet options or Velcro in a couple spots.

@TrailvagabondsАй бұрын
Very good question, it was a struggle for sure. Mainly eyeballing. I suppose left to right (driver to passenger side of the van) you could use a small level on the bottom of it. But front to back you cannot because the floor isn’t level with the van slopping to the front. I did my best to show my process for everything I did through my build, mistakes in all. The models before the X line didn’t have regulated outputs and needed adaptors but we’ve not had any issues with our 12v system. We feed from the Anderson port to a 12v Blue Sea fuse block. We power two Maxxair fans, a shurflo water pump, Iceco cooler style 45 L fridge, Webasto Airtop 2000stc heater, numerous LED lights. We also have AC outlets running from the 120v side. Plug other electronic items into the usb ports for charging (Garmin watch, bike computer, GoPro batteries). All has worked great with no issues. What model do you have? Hmm, that’s trickier as the older units were not regulated. This cable is supposed to help with that~ amzn.to/4aYDmAU but I’m not sure if they would be the problem. Do you have the error code? For a max current cable, have you found a third party seller that may have the cable in stock still? That would be helpful for your electrical system. Great video. Quick question, do you ever have the mattress slide if you had to slam on the breaks? I rarely see bed platforms with a lip to stop that. Any thoughts?
@Trailvagabonds8 ай бұрын
We do have a lip in our van but I don’t know that it was needed. Depending on cabinets and even the type of mattress used (some of the memory foam ones are very heavy) it would probably stay in place just fine. We built a cabinet to the ceiling on the drivers side and have a plywood wall we tiled on the passenger side so the lip in the middle wasn’t needed. Just another note on it, if you build the lip too high it’s a hard surface to roll your knee or shin over which isn’t fun. We haven’t noticed this being an issue with how low ours is but it could be a problem. All that to say we’ve never had the mattress move in a quick stop.

Thank you for your feedback. What about the new and trending DC air conditioners?
@Trailvagabonds8 ай бұрын
That is what I touched on with 12v units. The trending DC units on high have too large a power draw. The very popular Dometic RTX 2000 has a draw of 19 amps on eco mode so possibly on low settings you could run it for a bit but higher settings and startup (can pull 60-75 amps to start up) would not be possible so I’d advise against it. I will say the new Goal Zero Pro 4000 has a larger max output but again on max settings it would be too large an output with the Dometic. Maybe there are other A/C units with smaller amp draws but I’m not sure of them. A diy system may be the best option if you need a DC air conditioner and won’t be plugging in
@neilbennett94858 ай бұрын
Thats all great but I’m interested in running A/C all night in hot climate?? Can or not?
@Trailvagabonds8 ай бұрын
Unless you are plugging in, no. You need a very large battery bank for an A/C unit. They are energy intensive. 12v units that are said to be more efficient normally run at 50-80 amps, which is too large for the GZ 12v max output of 30A

Your frame looks pretty flush with the car frame, or maybe a tad lower, but mine is higher as I've removed the side steps
@Trailvagabonds10 ай бұрын
The key is to have it always sloping down so that water vapor can escape. If you have it travel back up hill there is a chance the water will condense and turn into ice inside the exhaust pipe and then it will plug up. It’s important to have it always traveling downwards. If you can locate the muffler closer to the heater and travel a short distance after the muffler to not have to travel up again, they would be ideal.
