Gen 1: Very easy and obvious picks, Nidoking is goated. Gen 2: Crobat had anime power so even as a kid I knew Crobat evolved from Golbat, and happiness evolutions aren't that hard to get if you just play the game normally. Gen 3: Manetric is used because there weren't many other Electric types besides Plusle and Minun, and those two are infinitely more popular as a duo than a solo. Gen 4: Absolutely nothing to comment on because it's true. Gen 5p1: Archeops was never picked because it was good, it was picked because it was cool. You're letting your modern sensibilities interfere with the cool factor. Gen 5p2: Volcarona is infinitely easier to get in BW2 since you can get Larvesta much sooner, and it being incredibly powerful was well worth the time it took to evolve. Gen 6: One reason I could say for lack of Sylveon in the top is because its evolution method was convoluted. You needed a Fairy move AND 2 hearts in Amie. Gen 7: Alolan Ninetales was a version exclusive, so it's only natural it would suffer in overall usage if polling both games. Gen 8: Perrserker would have been a lot more popular had Corviknight not existed since Corviknight covers the Steel part and immune to Ground. Hisui: Yeah, I did the double Ghost combo too cuz they were just so cool I couldn't just pick one. Gen 9: All solid picks, though I had Medicham instead of Garganacl because well, I like Medicham.
