Thank you for the video ❤ could you please talk about difference between serger machine and coverstitch machines
@GailPatriceDesign5 күн бұрын
Sergers can be overlock only or combo overlock/coverstitch machines, Overlock utility stitches trim and finish seams. Coverstitching is the industry standard for hemming knit garment and won't overlock seams. Both modes can also create decorative stitches as well. There are so many utility and decorative stitches in each mode, it's impossible to go through all of them in this reply. Scroll through my Tip Clips and you'll see many in each mode. Thanks!

Your video is wonderful! Any recommendation on edging color for a black/dark gray fleece with a sage green/white silver print on it? I have black, dark grey, silver, and sage. I have embroidery thread. Will that work, or do I need a heavier thread?
@GailPatriceDesign8 күн бұрын
Hi Linda, Glad the Blanket Stitch video is helpful for you. You will definitely need heavy thick thread for fleece. Embroidery thread will completely disappear when it sinks into lofty fleece. I suggest picking up the sage color with 8-weight thread which is nice and bold. 12-wt. will also work but it won't have quite as much "pop" as 8-wt. Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for watching!

Hi Gail love all your info: Could help me? I am told that I need different Foot Pressure and to change it with what I am sewing. I grew up the old fashion way and never needed to worry about pressure, but this new machines seem to needed. Please explain to me when I am to change the pressure when I am sewing? For example I want to make Rope Bowls and my rope is 3/16 of an inch thick???? HELP I can send you my email just let me know where????
@GailPatriceDesign9 күн бұрын
For most projects, your presser foot pressure stays on the normal or default setting . But for fabrics that are slippery, extra thick or lofty or very sheer, you may have to increase or decrease pressure. Rope is dense as well as thick and it is round so you will have to change pressure to control it well. For rope bowls, refer to the pattern instructions for guidance. And if you google "rope bowls," you'll find info to help you. Before you adjust the presser foot pressure, be sure you know where the default setting is. If the knob or dial isn't marked, make a mark with a Sharpie marker on the dial. Hope that helps!

I didn't get to see the Live, but just watched your video. You answered a burning question of mine! Should flat lock fabrics be flat on top of each other, folded in the center (makes a two-color seam if I'm using two different fabrics), or just one folded on top of the other? Even when I press, I usually end up with a two color seam. Your tip on using a skewer or knitting needle is a Voila moment! That opens up the seam completely. I have shied away from flatlock because I didn't know what the end result should look like. Now I have a result to strive for on my BabyLock (narrower ladders). Thanks so much! And yes, I love the 3 ladder star effect! Wish I had known that for a previous project!
@GailPatriceDesign11 күн бұрын
Hi Eileen, When creating reverse flatlock ladders, the fabrics are right sides together as they would be when stitching a regular seam. The fabric that is on top is the one that will show under the ladders. Glad the "skewer tip" helped and that you like the 3 ladder star. I do too and thanks for watching!
@EileenBator11 күн бұрын
@@GailPatriceDesign It worked with a thin knitting needle for the 7.5 with stitches. And I did discover that the top fabric shows through. Ah, finally I can do flatlocks confidently. Hi Patricia, You can add more center panels. Depending on the width of your flatlock stitch, you could increase the width of each panel to 4 1/2" or 4 3/4". And the borders can be slightly increase in width to add up to 70" total length. Hope that helps and thanks!

Is it wooly polyester in the loopers, too?
@GailPatriceDesign26 күн бұрын
Hi, The wooly polyester is in the upper looper. Serger cone thread is in the right needle and lower looper. The upper looper thread is the one that wraps around the edge of the fabric to the wrong side. The lower looper's higher tension pulls that upper looper thread to the wrong side of the fabric. So when you finish an edge with a rolled hem, always position the fabric right side up. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

@GailPatriceDesign28 күн бұрын
Hi Rina, You may want a combo overlock/coverstitch machine. There are many models and brands that can do what you want. Stitches and seams that you mention are a matter of selecting the correct stitch for the technique and adjusting the settings on the serger. If you want to hem garments a coverstitch capable machine may be the answer. My best suggestion is to visit a local sewing machine dealer and asking a salesperson to show you a variety of sergers . There is a wide range of prices, quality and capabilities depending on price points. Look for a dealer who offer lessons and classes to help you. Sergers are fun to learn and use, but do require lessons. There are many Serger Tip Clips on my channel.that demonstrate loads of different stitches. Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck!

Hello- thanks for this video! I have 2 questions 1. Right shoulder : Do you join the first shoulder together and run the seam through the binder attachment just like the other parts of the neckline? 2. Left shoulder seam : When you sew together at the machine after applying the wonder tape, do you start at the binding and go down? I have a hard time getting it to start right at the edge and also backstitching. I was thinking maybe it would be easier to go in the opposite direction so that the binding part would come last? I hope these questions make sense! Thank you!
@GailPatriceDesignАй бұрын
Hi Ashley, Yes I join the first shoulder seam prior to stitching on the binding. It's a good idea to slow way down and hand walk the presser foot over the shoulder seam. You can also lengthen the stitch slightly as you go over the extra layers of seam allowance. to compensate for the added thickness. Here's a link to my "Over the Hump" Tip Clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKLRXoSdhNN-g9E. To close the 2nd shoulder seam, start stitching on the edge without the binding. Use a "hump jumper" to level the presser foot as the toe of the foot approaches the binding and once again, lengthen the stitch. I'm a big fan of taking a few hand stitches to hold the binding securely. It just takes a minute and is a lot faster than ripping out a bad result and restitching. Let me know if you need more help and thanks for watching!

So many great tips, Gail! Thanks for highlighting that you help the fabric along at the beginning. @GailPatriceDesignАй бұрын
Hi Andy, Also (and I probably didn't say this), even if you are helping the fabric advance but it's chugging along, stop and lengthen the stitch.As you already know, with heavy threads or thicker fabrics, if the stitch length is too short, it can make it difficult for the fabric to feed through correctly.
