Personally, I think the Secrid Mini is a better, overall wallet.
@Gear_4310 сағат бұрын
I hear that alot, I've had a chance to use a couple Secrid wallets, and I might disagree there. Why do you feel it is better?
@michaelwaller60937 сағат бұрын
@ the Secrid is a smaller footprint with more options and a better / easier cash storage for access.

My vote goes to Ekster, simply because they’re still innovating in this market. The Ridge wallet has easy duplicate options on Amazon that all do exactly what Ridge does, and for a far cheaper price. So far, I don’t see as nearly as many Ekster cardholder knock offs, and I would hazard a guess that it would be more complicated for a knock off company to mechanically duplicated a quality card ejection system than it is to slap two bands between hard plastic, which is basically all a Ridge wallet is. Ekster also has a good amount of customizable add-ons to their wallets that Ridge doesn’t have. Ridge wallets gained a huge following just after the year one of the pandemic, and I feel like they’ve become the complacent king of the mountain inside the wallet space. I don’t know why they aren’t innovating anymore, but I feel like Ekster deserves to lap them.
@Gear_432 күн бұрын
Thanks for the input here! The Ekster wallets are all great (not a big fan of the standard Parliament). I will say to the comment about duplicate options... while those options may "look" like Ridge, I've found they don't "work" like Ridge. They tend to be grittier, and not quite as good of an experience in actual usage. It should also be mentioned they just launched the Ridge Biflex, a range of standard leather wallets, and the Ridge Wallet Lite (I reviewed that on the channel), so they are branching out now (not to mention their other ancillary products like rings, watches, and key organizers). Again, not saying they are the all-time better product, but they seem to be making a big push in innovation as of very lately.

@@Gear_43 I actually own a knock off Amazon Ridge copycat wallet, and as anecdotal as this may be, it functions exactly like the real one that that my cousin paid 80 bucks for. Maybe there's some subtle differences in quality, but a band is a band most of the time, and I've never had any issues pulling cards out or clipping money to my knockoff wallet. I've had it since 2021 and it's still show no signs of major wear. Not trying to be a contrarian here, but that really is my experience. I knew about the existence of the Biflex when I made my comment. I just don't think it does enough to keep up with Ester's offerings... actually, I kinda think the Biflex just plain sucks, and going back to leather seems like a downgrade to me. Just my opinion, but yeah 🤷♀

I didn’t even know Rode came out with this model. I’ve been using the rode wireless go 2 for the past two years with great success. The sound was great. Unfortunately, I misplaced them and the only complaint about Rode was there big square bulky microphone. So I recently picked up the Hollyland Lark M2, and they are much more discreet and sound perfect. But the only thing I do miss is the more you can adjust the audio with Rode on their receiver to dial it in perfectly. Great video thanks for sharing.
@Gear_432 күн бұрын
I've really been wanting to try a Hollyland! It seems like an awesome alternative.
@LMActionsportsКүн бұрын
@@Gear_43so I cheaped out and only bought the Hollyland Lark M2 camera kit instead on the kit that comes with the iPhone receiver, camera receiver, and usb-c receiver. Well inside the camera kit includes a usb-c to usb-c cable, and a usb-c to lightning cable. And you can plug the usb-c cable into the camera receiver firmware port and use your camera receiver and microphones on your iPhones or your android cell phones or your computer and only the camera receiver allows you to adjust the volume and sound output. It is a very versatile microphone. Now I do like that you can use Lavalier Mic and plug it into the rode mics but unfortunately, you can’t do that with a holy land. But they’re so small. They’re fine the way they are. I bought the DJI Osmo pocket three and it came with the DJI mic 2 and that little microphone sounds good also. But right now the holy land is my favorite just for simple ease of use and it just sounds pretty good. 0:04

i would say double oak took some inspiration from secrid, but not exactly a copycat. the one thing i don't like about secrid is that there is no lock mechanism. double oak solves this problem.
@Gear_434 күн бұрын
Other than the fact they are metal cardholders, I'd say they are both quite different in fact! Very different feel, style, button mechanism, etc. While I haven't had a chance to fully-review a Secrid, I've been able to use a couple different ones, and they are quite different.

sharing my 2c here for people in the comments skeptical about Gear43's take or having more tech to be tech-minimal -- IMO we use "minimalism" quite liberally these days when it doesn't have to be exactly that. I recently purchased this device since I write alot (obsessively sometimes) and I have a million journals at this point that I have to travel with because I don't have a space to lock and store them safely yet (also dont want anyone be reading them), adding to that, I love to read and have similar problem of portability of books with it, kindle paperwhite solved that issue for me. So yea, getting more tech here was a solution for me but even if the answer to what I'm looking for is not Supernote (I'm yet to try out the device) I'm 10000% sure the solution is in one of the e-ink devices that are up and coming these days. PS: already tried the Remarkable, the device is on it's way back rn.

Personally, I think the Double Had still needs some work. Don't like the bulk and really don't care for the paper money storage solution. I can see myself fighting the bills in and out of that sleeve. Appears well made and they seem responsive to criticism.

Thats exactly what I got, the slim iceberg edition. I don't carry cash so my 6 cards are inside the RFID metal housing and my work access card that needs to be scanned, is in the exterior slot so I don't have to take it out for scanning. Quite happy with it so far.

The whole point of the Rush tool is that it is a tool to put things on and take them off of your Pivot that you can put on and take it off without a tool. Why even put the Rush tool on your Pivot if you’re not going to use it as intended, but rather use a key?
@Gear_439 күн бұрын
Because the Rush tool works amazing as a pocket clip, which this one lacks?

My personal opinion, hands down the ridge is better - brand name, overall look and feel and daily usage. Put often used cards in the front and back (e.g. credit and debit cards). Put driver license card in middle as you use your driver license. maybe a few times per year.

I think the only time that would be a concern is with gravel, as both portions are raised up, so that they shouldn't touch the ground, unless there is something protruding upward.

I also prefer the Ridge and mine has lasted without any scuffs. Looks as good as new. What irritates me about the Aviator is the hanging strap. It breaks the streamlined look and the idea of something flapping as you take it out of your pocket doesn’t appeal to me.
@Gear_4320 күн бұрын
Got it! I actually have another brand I'm in the middle of reviewing that might be of interest as it has as similar design to the Aviator, but the strap seems to be well implemented. Make sure to subscribe to keep an eye out for that!
