I used to use OptiX for viewport denoising and OID for rendering, but now that Blender 4.1 introduced GPU-based OID, I exclusively use OID. It's actually more performant now, and it looks significantly better. Rendering scenes in 4K with 4096 samples + OID, I actually find it can look TOO clean, ruining photorealism. I find myself opening up photoshop and adding in a small amount of camera noise to make it look like it was captured on a digital camera.

Please could you do a tutorial on simulating clothes to a still pose? Not an animation? I’m struggling with realism with clothes in my renders because I don’t know how to do this, for example the sleeves or shorts falling correctly with the pose.

My tip is getting actual seweing patterns. There are a ton aviable for free. This prevents you from having weird bulges and other weird behavior. Just smack them on a character in tpose, give it a couple of frames to settle and make a transition animation to the actual pose. Hope this helps

In case someone has troubles with the location of the drops, know that the original objects of the drops must be located at x,y,z: 0,0,0, all of them. Otherwise, the drops will float over the skin.

It's a GPU! A freakin' Intel i7 7700k using the HD630 integrated graphics would smoke any CPU at rendering. An AMD 3400G would smoke the 5900x using the APU, whichever Vega model it is. A 6700XT 12GB would smoke ALL of those except the 3070Ti, and it may even smoke it if it's not a CUDA piece of software. Come on, apples to oranges. it's always cool to see the differences in what CPU vs GPU can do at rendering, but it has nothing to do with "muh apple." The 5900x smoked the M1 Pro CPU, eh? And the 5900x is old, now. And knowing this video, you stuck some DDR4 2133 in that rig lol instead of some DDR4 3600 C16 like anyone else and ya didn't even enable DOCP (or XMP as you'd know it). Same thing for encoding videos. Want to bring a 2GB video down to 100 MB in 20 seconds? Use the GPU. Want to take longer but end up with a smaller file and better quality? Use the CPU.

2024, Blender 4.0.2, nvidia studio driver 551.23, GTX 1070 TI, 32GB, Ryzen 5 5600X. Same settings used in the video: 2560x1440, 400 samples, only gpu, CUDA rendering selected. PartyTug (Cycles) 07.00.92 and (EEVEE) 00.38.13 Racing Cars (Cycles) 06.10.55 Junkshop (Cycles) 05.08.61 The 3070 of the video was using Optix and has 6144 Cuda cores! The 1070 TI has 2432. Have to say that recently the render times improved a lot using Cuda. Yesterday I was looking at some videos of the GTX 1080 TI and Titan X and, in the same Blender demos, the 1080 TI was two times slower than what my gpu can score today.

i used my rtx 3070 laptop for the junk scene and it took 20min, thats like 20 times that of rtx 3070 you used, does it mean my card is inefficient or the 3070ti is 20 times more powerful than the 3070 laptop?

actually it behaves just exactly like the shorts at 5:00 how do you stop it from moving if theres n oanimation?
@edgeloop
@edgeloop 6 ай бұрын
That behavior is correct since it's simulating the cloth over time respecting your cloth settings and gravity. Imagine you had a piece of cloth in the air and started a simulation that lasted 10 seconds. The cloth would fall (due to gravity) and hit the ground a crumple up (due to collision). Keyframes don't matter in this case. :)

Definitely check your Blender version and ensure you're selecting the exact same type of object. I don't remember which version of Blender I was using on this video though. In any case, just get the latest Blender.

Hello. Buddy. I have a question. I have shoulder pads on my character. I want them to collide with the arm is moving up and shoulder . Do I do the same thing here. Do I have to add a bone to it. I can't really find a video that helps with this kinda thing.
@edgeloop
@edgeloop 6 ай бұрын
I've thought about this kind of animation before but never really did it myself. You probably don't want to simulate shoulder pads with a cloth simulation because it won't be able to maintain the volume of the pad. You can do the typical weight painting and use bones to control the shoulder pad as the arm/shoulder move. The one thing I've thought about trying is making the shoulder pad a rigid body but I've had so many problems with rigid bodies in blender (crashing and generally not working). The cool thing about it being a rigid body is that it would 100% maintain volume and keep its shape if that's what you're looking for.
@Omnivoid22
@Omnivoid22 6 ай бұрын
@@edgeloop I did figure it out. I just use weight painting. Only the shoulder controls it.

I'm getting hung up on the scale part. I tested this out recently and got fantastic and easy sims at a x5 scale, but I'm doing an animation with multiple characters holding props interacting with an environment. Changing the scale fixes the cloth but breaks everything else, like hair and props, how do we bring the scale back to real world settings with the cloth all ready to go?
@TheBigQQ69420
@TheBigQQ69420 7 ай бұрын
Not an expert, but if you don't need to resimulate the cloth you could bake the simulation into the mesh (obviously keep the upscaled version as a backup or if you need to make changes), and scale the duplicate down to what it was. With the simulation finalized into a mesh, the collision distances would no longer matter.

-applied all subdivide modifiers -duplicated and decimated the collider by 0.05 ratio (apply it) -deleted all other effectors besides gravity, and lowered gravity to 0,1 -speed multiplier up -deleted hidden physics objects backups (no clue if affects, probably does)

Hi! Any suggestions on how to prevent the vertices from dancing around? i can see this in your shorts close to the top rim, and something im currently struggling to remove. Ideally we need to have this completely in a settled state. Also another issue i just noticed in my project, if i enable both a skirt and tshirt at the same time, it gets strange results, but if i sim them independently they seem to work as expected, even though there's no contact between them.

Are you sure that the Mac thing actually runs on GPU? Because if you do not use CUDA(Nvidia), Optix(Nvidia), HIP(AMD), or OneAPI(Intel) then you use no GPU but CPU. I see no option for anything Mac related in Blender 3.6. Though I have no Mac hardware. Though nor do I have AMD or Intel but their options show and report that I do not have their hardware instead. If the "Device GPU Compute" drop down box is grey then you are not using the GPU. Also. "GPU" does not mean actual RT acceleration. "GPU" means "compute" or "fixed function" and they are not the same. Only the fixed function part is the actual "hardware acceleration" part. Compute is only a glorified CPU on the GPU also known as GPGPU(General Purpose GPU). So. Seems "Optix Prime" supports the RT cores on RTX cards. But I can not find evidence that Blender's Optix actually uses Prime. Other than that Optix is really only a software layer over CUDA. And CUDA does not support hardware RT cores as of 2020(I could not find a newer source). AMD's HIP though shows an "RT (Experimental)" option in my Blender 3.6. I figure that actually means that AMD would use RT cores if that option is on. Neither CUDA nor Optix have such option so I take it that it is either automatic or rather not enabled ever because of licencing issue since Blender is open source but Nvidia is not. They already had such issues with Blender before. So. The RTX part of you card is as good as the GTX of my GTX 1080ti. No RTX card is fully used I am afraid. Except you still got more compute cores. And the compute score I looked up is like ~4x of my 1080ti if I recall. That is still super fast but sill no match for actual RT cores.

The best denoiser in Blender by far is one from TurboTools plugin. That plugin worth every penny. And denoiser is so good with fixing flickering but its slow, especially on higher resolutions because it actually does some heavy math behind in compositor and can be a little bit annoying, still very very clean
