Your road surface in that area is atrocious, even worse than the UK. We have too many potholes, but those raised manhole covers would cause the road to be closed over here. Someone got killed around where I live just a few weeks ago when he swerved to avoid a service cover that was being realigned during installation of optical cables. He was in a very expensive classic Porsche and didn't want the car to be damaged, he lost control. FSD is not even close to handling our narrow country lanes, but that is not Tesla's focus. It would mean that his Robotaxi is dead-in-the-water as a concept in much of Europe right now, unless it was geofenced.

Very nice drive. A lot different than city roads. A lot of patches, manholes, blind corners and need for dynamic speed changes. Very nice training data for Tesla. Interesting roundabout quirk as well, but it shows that following the lane should be more consistent, if there are two options are equally valid. Nice scenery and place to live, maybe except for the roads conditions.

47:40 I’ve watched it three times now at quarter speed. I don’t think it was going to hit the car. It rolls and cuts it close but was not going to whack the rear of the vehicle passing. The blue intention bar certainly crossed the passed car but that intention line is covering the next seconds…. the car would be passed by the time of intersection. I agree it was human-uncomfortable though. It shouldn’t cut that close. Thanks for sharing.
@johnfurr6060Ай бұрын
No. It was pulling out. It had already creeped up and jerked like it was going twice before I had to intervene. None of it was acceptable or comfortable to the passengers. The car needs to sit still until it goes. With that said, the rest of the drive was pretty amazing. The car took us to a concert an hour away and back home last night. I am highly impressed, but I also want to show everything.
@tonyfromaus7855Ай бұрын
@@johnfurr6060 yes I agree it was pulling out. But at quarter speed it looks like it wouldn’t have actually collected the passing car…. it was very close though. It does that when it’s crossing traffic…. starts to roll before the car has passed in front but times it to just pass behind. I could be wrong, but at quarter speed it looks like it was close but not going to hit. I fully understand why it would feel like it was going to hit though. And that is an unacceptable action for it to take…. making the humans uncomfortable. Forgive me if I’m just totally wrong but at quarter speed that is how it looks. I really appreciate your reply and the videos. Thanks again.
@johnfurr6060Ай бұрын
In this case, perhaps the video isn't doing it full justice, but It would have pulled out in front of the car and the guy wouldn't have had time to stop. Remember you are watching a video of the event that I was in the drivers seat for it. I was trying to give the car as much leeway as possible to see how it would perform Now is it possible that it would have only lurched 5 inches and slammed on the breaks? Yeah. Maybe the other car could have swerved around me. We won't ever know the cars next steps because I had to make a split second decision to intervene. It was a little scary this time to be honest. The thing is though, this wasn't a blind corner that required a lot of creeping. Car had clear line of sight before it even made the full stop.. The car shouldn't have had any issue with this one IMO. You are right though, it is fairly normal for the car to start/stop like that and it's one of my biggest complaints. Go or wait. Don't go/wait/go/wait that drives me mad! Anyway mad FSD is getting crazy good. Like I said I did an hour long drive last night to a concert and an hour drive home and the car did flawlessly. Very impressed overall.
@tonyfromaus7855Ай бұрын
@@johnfurr6060 I really appreciate your detailed response. I still do think that it looks like it wasn’t going to hit but rather slip in behind the car. But you were there and video can be deceptive. So maybe I’m wrong about that. It seems unlikely because so far all the mistakes FSD has made have reasonable explanations of why it would fail. The Chuck Cook parking near hit was during the auto park stack for instance. Maybe that’s not good yet. But in this case it’s got the vision and a correct interpretation of the road arrangement so it’s hard to see how it could get it so wrong. I would have stomped the brake too. It was at least exceedingly uncomfortable and maybe you are right and it was about to prang. In any case I am very pleased that you took the time to tell me your point of view in such a decent manner. I’m sure it’s at least slightly infuriating if you believe I have it so wrong. So thanks for being decent about it. And thanks for doing this pioneering work that we all will benefit from.

@@johnfurr6060 My guess is that since you are at an angle relative cross traffic. You re on the very edge of the side view front camera and also side rearwards. So there could be a weak spot in detection and speed estimate function of vehicles in that narrow band. The only way to determine the speed of an object travelling rigth at you by a single lense is the growth of the object. I dont think that it is a coincidence that the colour of the car was grey just as the tarmac and went a little faster than the limit.

This is true, but the Cybertruck still smoked it off the line with trailer in tow and beat it in the 1/8 mile. And without the tow it would beat it in the quarter mile too. So it's not as impressive as made out to be, but it's still completely ridiculous how bad ass this is.

300 miles per charge, at 1,500 cycles is 450K miles. 450K miles at average driving of 14K miles per year is 32 years. Not too many people I know keep a car for 32 years. Additionally, it’s not like the battery just shuts off and stops working at a certain point like when a transmission goes or a motor has a timing belt problem or something like that. It is true that they will gradually degrade in overall capacity over time as well as charge a little bit slower, but here is the important detail that many people overlook: most people do not need 300 miles of driving range in a day. They usually need about 40 miles of driving range, or less, per day. So as the battery gradually degrades over 30 years of use, it won’t matter enough to affect the daily usage of the vehicle For quite some time. Data shows that they lose somewhere between 10 and 15% of their capacity over the first 200,000 miles. That means that a full charge would be around 280 miles per Charge after the car has 200,000 miles on it cumulatively.the only reason that is a problem is because somebody thinks it is a problem, not because it is a problem in reality.
@aaronbounds13367 ай бұрын
Warranty on battery and drive motors is 8 years, 120K miles. Should get 400K miles out of the pack with good battery care.

Holy crap man where do you live? Is this straight from the grid or do you also have solar?
@aaronbounds13367 ай бұрын
I find charging adds about 20% to the overall trip time. Depends on the trip. If there are no V2 Superchargers then it is quicker, and those are more and more common. Does it take longer? Yes. But it’s a much better experience overall. There is new functionality in the Tesla app as of a few days ago, where you can use the trip planner just like you would in the car but on your phone in the app and so sometimes I sit down and type in random places around the United States and observe the charging times. I just typed in from my location to Boise Idaho, about 800 miles, and six of the eight charging stops were between 11 and 13 minutes. That’s fine. By the time I use the bathroom and eat or check texts and reply, make a phone call to family I haven’t seen in years, use the bathroom, whatever, the car is usually waiting on me, rather than me waiting on the car. For me, longer charge times aren’t a flaw, they’re a feature. It seriously has made my life better. When’s the last time you called your grandparents and had a chat? Too long for me. This allows time for those little things that make the human experience valuable.

Does it seem to be improving overtime? I am in the market for a Tesla and not sure if I sure get FSD.
@johnfurr60608 ай бұрын
For the most part yes. There are some regressions and some improvements with each version.
@theodorehaskins37568 ай бұрын
So when I drive on FSD, which is just about all the time, I rarely touched the screen, and I noticed you don’t use voice commands, and I do everything using voice command, and so I never touch my screen, because I don’t want to clean it number one, and if I don’t touch the screen it doesn’t get the fingerprints that I see all over your screen. So I don’t do that, and the other thing is, I never touch the steering wheel unless it tells me to, because that’s not a strike against you. If you don’t, it’s only a strike if the auto pilot disengages, because you’re not paying attention to when the car tells you to take over, and you don’t. So the nags are there just because Tesla has to have them there in order to satisfy these morons at DOT department of transportation, because what’s the point in having this technology if you gotta continue to drive the car? That makes absolutely no sense, because it’s all about hands-free driving. That’s what this is about because we humans like it not simply are not good drivers, and the statistics prove that out every year with the high number of traffic fatalities in the US with 30K plus, and that is totally unacceptable. So what are we going to do about it? Tesla is the only car company talking about doing something about that statistic, driving it down to zero, and that’s what this is about, saving lives, and I know that you referred to the car as a robot, and you’re correct, Tesla cars are robots, and yes the technology is new, and we should not trust it, until it’s proven to be trustworthy. So no doubt about that, no question about that, but the idea is to get humans out from behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, because that’s the only way we’re going to save lives, as we can’t teach humans to do that which we’re not capable of doing and driving safely and making good decisions while behind the wheel is something most of us can’t do or simply won’t do, we are easily distracted by almost anything. So it’s not about people not caring about their own lives, or the lives of others, it is just simply that we have become numb to the driving hazards, and we sometimes don’t use good judgment, and that we’re likely to be distracted by almost anything. So most of the time we’re driving by instinct, not by thinking about driving, and what Tesla has imagined is a future where no one drives their cars, as the car is the robot, no driver required. So it’s not just about convenience or hey look at me I got this fantastic technology, it’s about saving lives, and in the process saving the planet, and so there’s only one company that has a mission to do that, and that is Tesla, no other car company is thinking this way, not GM not Toyota, not Mercedes, not VW, etc. There is just one car company that stands alone in this category, and that is Tesla, that is why I drive a Tesla today and not a Buick or a Mercedes. Cheers 🥂
