Never seen such Humble American players , quite and respectful the Croations were the opposite. Mikes so good . If the Americans hadn’t put so many balls just back into play they would have won easily . The Croations killed all short balls with wonderful angles or power . Lovely match Well done America

As a Nadal fan and a Roger fan, I still always push for Nadal. It's his heart and devotion. I love Roger for different reasons. It was great just watching them play without having to every suffer much disappointment with the final result.

I didn't realize they were so far down the rankings in 2017. Injuries and missed matches I suppose?

2024 here. It’s literally crazy to see how the game has changed with respect to the speed, power over finesse. Truly representative of society !

My TiVo ran out of recording in the 5th set during this match. I had friends over and everything…needless to say it was quite suspenseful.

Okay, so would Federer be better if he grunted? (Yes, I know he makes a few quiet sounds while serving once in a while.)

I still believe that this tennis match is the greatest of all time. The Nadal/ Federer 2008 final pales in comparison to this.

McEnroe was Primetime viewing!! Something about this video is so relatable. They didn't have the high velocity rackets back then, so it was mostly finesse. Beautiful!

Wawrinka had the best backhand when you're talking about rally balls from the baseline. But for the ability to explode out of nowhere and hit outright winners Federer's backhand in the second half of his career was right there with the best who ever played. Federer and Wawrinka are the only 2 with 1 handed backhands where during a match it could consistently be the hardest shot being hit. Very common with 2 handed backhands you could go the next 30 minutes and give examples. What an amazing talent Federer was. I know that people will jump and say that Federer would automatically win but my dream match would be McEnroe in 1984 when he was almost untouchable against Federer at his best. I am only talking about McEnroe in 1984, please remember that. There were other years McEnroe played where Federer would have beaten him badly. What a glorious performance here.

But wasn't it stopped temporally in the 2nd set. Also, what about the four years 2013 2014 2015 2016 when his backhand was garbage???

fairytale match after both of them were injured to come back and produce this level in the final. Probably one of the happiest moments I've had as a federer fan, despite so many other highlights - it was because Nadal and he both fully deserved it and it was the 'weakness' that Nadal was always able to exploit that made the big difference in 2017

As riveting as I found this match and the other great professional tennis matches of the ‘80s at the time, they seem almost quaint in comparison to the most recent generation of great tennis rivalries. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Alcaraz and the others strike me as having upped the quality and tempo of the game by several notches. I truly wonder whether a Borg or a McEnroe would have reached the same heights in today’s tennis world. I’m sure many will disagree, but it’s just how it seems to me after having followed the evolution of professional tennis for more than 50 years.
