I don’t like inverted results on slate? I find I get better depth and definition using un inverted but higher power.

Hi Carol - not really sure what you mean - slate being the dark background as opposed to white. The image needs to be inverted to get a "positive image".

@@mrcraftsmith I’ve been trialling a lot of 3d images rather than photos, for 3d I’ve found that the image pops off the slate better, or the 3d effect is more pronounced, when not inverted.

Just got a cheaper 5W laser engraver off of marketplace and excited to try it. I am a woodworker and have made some furniture pieces and trays before. I am thinking to make and engrave monitor stands. What do you think about this product?
@mrcraftsmith
@mrcraftsmith 7 күн бұрын
Hi Sarah - a couple of questions I guess regarding the monitor stands - what designs do you have in mind? for both the monitor stands and engravings - are you planning on personalising with engravings? is there much market for that type of product in your area - or are you planning on shipping? you could start by making a couple for friends or family and share on your socials in local community groups and see what sort of feedback you get - I did a video about that type of "no sales marketing" here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnXJmKV9ep2La6csi=UW6dmuiBC-ikjeRJ - might be worth a shot :) let me know how you go

Hi Darren did you ever get good results with the titanium dioxide powder mixed with alcohol. I have tried this but the application is a nightmare. With a spray it blotched and with a brush the lines are visible and thickness varies. Have you heard of, or come up with any other method of application?

I did try a couple but similarly I couldn't get an even coating with what I had available at the time - I kinda lost interest after that and have moved onto other stuff - I do have a spray gun now that might work but i also thought of doing like a dip - it works in my head at least - my schedule with my regular business means I have very little time for that type of experimentation unfortunately :(

I just bought an engraver to make some custom parts for one of my projects. The one I bought was an inexpensive 10W diode laser from xTool. After messing with is for 3 days, I already have my workflow form FreeCAD figured out and I quickly learned that I needed an air purifier it. $700 later and mow I'm thinking I should also get a fiber laser because I really do need something to engrave steel/aluminum (Create an indent deeper than 0.003"/0.08mm) and try to recover some of the cost. This unit is almost as easy to use as my Bambu labs X1C 3D printer. I think I am going to do some key chains and wooden model kits

I'm considering a fibre laser myself - will see how we go with our initial offerings - I have to keep the number of offerings limited at this stage due to my time availability - hopefully that will change in the not too distant future :)

I have 2 atom stack products m100 that had a missing power supply and a MR20 20w fiber laser come faulty worst products ever, and there got the worst customer service spent $5000 have e85 table and all the stuff "lol you get a free product" I could not even get a replacement control board. I have taken them to ACCC equal to FTC. I would not promote this company ever. spent over 6 weeks in chats and ended up reverse engineering the product and fixed it myself as they would not tell me nothing did not offer repair, refund or replacement warranty not worth the paper its written on.

@@mrcraftsmith Thing with Atomstack is you can only buy some parts and some control boards. You can not buy a replacement e85 control board also the m100 has a booster control board that you can not buy replacement for if it dies leaving the m100 with only 70% output if it if booster board fails. The Wiring extension harness you can not buy from them, basically if something fails, you can not buy a lot of spares, you can not even buy spare motors. The company atomstack will not tell you what you need to fix it as well. In the case of this system 24w diode, if it come faulty... there is no control board for the system to buy if the unit come faulty like mine. You will find you can not buy replacement parts that are compatible for the 24w diode laser. I was lucky that they built the MR20 on old x20 control board hardware so i was able to fix it myself.

Use this mix and get GREAT results: 2 parts 91% IPA 1 part Ti02 Drops of food coloring - I used red to obtain a light red color. You do not want a real dark red, just enough to add a bit of color to see where it is applied. NO water.... NO glue.... After a good cleaning with Acetone; it dries in seconds, I use a 3 inch foam brush and apply a medium to light heavy coat with a fairly full brush, *very lightly* dragging the brush, making sure to have some mix flow over the edges. The mix only takes 5-10 minutes to dry and then you are ready to burn. (A "heaver" coat works best for me).... FYI: I use a Longer B1 30 watt laser, full air assist, (to keep the laser "lens" clean from the flying Ti02 bits), 3000 mm/min @ 55% power. The air won't disrupt the coating, BUT your fingers WILL.... For images I use the "Atkinson" image mode - 345 DPI - and fill/offset fill for others. As a 4.25 inch tile is ~108 mm, I usually set the tool layer to a 104 mm square to not worry about the burning on the edges. The "Framing" function is your best friend and with my home brew crosshair laser with the offset set in LB, I can frame my projects to precision. It is a beautiful thing to only have to use warm tap water, Dawn dish soap, and a toothbrush to make sure to clean the nooks and crannies that may hold traces of the Ti02. Using this mix for me, I obtain the blackest black you can expect and when you try this mix, you will be a tile burning "madman" .... HD has the white tiles for only ~ $12.50/ case of 100.... You'll thank me later.... Hank

A couple of things come to mind. 1. What type of laser(s) do you have and what are the power/speed ratings? This is the biggest variable in the "time is money" equation. 2. Comparing "mass produced generic products" as opposed to custom made or customized/personalized products. We're looking at a couple of niche areas. Board game and RPG (role playing games, Dungeons and Dragons) players. Dice trays, coasters and other ancillary objects. We design games so that meshes well, we think. The second is engraving as a service for retail businesses like coffee shops, groomers and the like. Still in the startup phase but it's a plan. Can't wait to see how your S.H.E. goes (nice acronym right? 😂
