Hello Rosemary, so well done. Thank you for doing this informative 2 part video. I am thinking about felting some very large stones. Do you have experience felting large objects like rocks ?
@rose88313 күн бұрын
I have felted small rocks but not big ones. I have felted rugs There is another tutorial for that on KZbin. I assume the gradual layout of a rug may be helpful. I don't think it would be hard.

Absolutely not this is a training video. Her speaking is so very helpful. If she didn't speak as much as she did , I wouldn't have made a hat half as beautiful as I did.

Is the rug only two layers?
@rose8832 ай бұрын
Yes...but they are thicker than felting a hat or bag. At least double.

@rose8833 ай бұрын
about 12" by 10" more or less it depends on how much you want for a brim and how much you want to shape it after you have formed it.

Great video!! Looks like pretty good, i have two questions: how many layers in each sides and how to make the hat less fluffy, i would like more of the hat was more hard, how i make It? Love your video!! Thank you so much!
@rose8834 ай бұрын
The more you rub the hat, the harder it gets. Plan for it to shrink as you rub. Also to remove fuzz: wait for the hat to dry completely then take a lit match or lighter and let it travel over the surface of the wool. The fuzz will shrivel up and can be brushed away. Wool is not flammable.
@rose8834 ай бұрын
Low and slow is the key. It takes me about an hour at least. Once it starts to thicken stay right by it so it doesn't burn.

How much water?
@rose8835 ай бұрын
I don't use any. I just add the liquid pectin. You can add water, but you'll just boil it off. The fruit has its own liquid, so you really don't need it.

that works and lets the air circulate for faster cooling. It also can save fragile counters...but mine are cement.

Do you work with unwashed wool? :)
@rose8837 ай бұрын
I do not wash my wool. I do use wool that is free from debris. My wool felts so well, that washing it causes it to begin felting. The felting process cleans the wool. You can see from my other videos how to choose and prepare wool.

So what is the ratio sand to cement?
@rose8839 ай бұрын
The cement is notil mixed that way. This is Topping cement which has a polymer in it that holds things together better (quickrete topping cement...other brand will do but that's the best) and we added a bit more polymer that is often called "milk"

Thanks so much for this terrific informative style of yours. I was wondering when I saw the book of matches on your tray, whether you were going to light the hat on fire afterwards as I have seen many do. Would that actually burn off the longer stray fibers and leave you with a smoother finish or no?
@rose883 Жыл бұрын
That is exactly right. Once the hat is dry, you can burn off the extra hairs. Make sure it is absolutely dry. The hat will not start on fire. Wool doesn't do that. The hairs will just shrivel up and you can brush them off.

I have wool from a farm down the road but so much guard hair. Is this usable? Love your work !
@rose883 Жыл бұрын
Guard hairs are a problem. They can be used if mixed with good felting wool and can be used for to help stiffen brims of hats.
