I noticed you turned your wood while it was still green. Did you have any problems with the olive wood warping or splitting? I’m planning to make 4 salt cellars for Christmas gifts and don’t have time to wait for my 3”x12” blanks to dry properly.

What is the object of this game ? How many players ? How's it played?
@MapEffects Жыл бұрын
It’s a two player game and the object is to get all your pieces from one entry point on the board, to the exit before your opponent. It’s an ancient Sumerian game so the rules have been lost, but without getting into the weeds on this…people have compiled a basic set of rules that’s generally agreed upon. I’d encourage you to look it up. Especially the play through with Dr. Irving Finkle and Tom Scott. It’s a fun watch and will explain the most popular way to play. It’s a genuinely fun game to play and one of the best from the ancient world.

Really pretty bowl. You did a good job. Nice finish too. I think the 2 woods go well together. It can be tricky when they’re different grain and hardness. Btw, that’s not mahogany; it’s sapele. It’s like calling pine spruce. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

I like the features you incorporated in that beautiful yarn bowl--tight neck, squat and heavy to the ground, perfect hole to carry the yarn out. Beautiful wood. Happy Turning for 2020.

Many thanks. It wouldn't help much if the bowl rolled around with the yarn :P I have another one planned in the not to distant future. I hope it turns out as good as this one :)

Many thanks. The jump certainly scared me. It wasn't the first time and probably wont be the last, so I do what I can to protect myself and live with the possibility as the cost of the craft :)

Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece. But i feel sorry of wasted wood could we core it instead whether with coring tools or in another way as straight sharp followed by curved tools
@monkeyhammerwoodworking78442 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a struggle losing so much. There are tools out there to core out the inside mass of the bowl to save for later, but unfortunately, they aren't in my tool box yet. Many thanks :)

It's always an adventure finding new materials. I get most of my finishes from woodcraft because it's close. Woodcraft isn't my favorite choice because most of their stuff is a little more expensive than elsewhere, but they're convenient. Many thanks :)

What is the wood ? Up in Canadian prairie people used willow pickets , they have been out there seasoning for 50 years . Can get some very interesting but very small wood
@monkeyhammerwoodworking78442 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure it was just pine. I'm not sure if it was treated or not because the fence was there long before I moved in next door in 2003. You can get pieces like these at the box stores around here. Thanks for watching :)

Split rail fences like these are all over the place in the US. I don't know about elsewhere. It's made from a log split into 8ths, so with its simplicity, I wouldn't be surprised to find it in other parts of the world. Thanks for watching.
