002 Royal Game of Ur - Woodworking

Hard maple and walnut. Finished January 10, 2021.
I'm pretty pleased with the board as a whole, but I'm considering planing the face down again and burning the rosettes instead of carving. They don't feel right.

What is the object of this game ? How many players ? How's it played?

It’s a two player game and the object is to get all your pieces from one entry point on the board, to the exit before your opponent. It’s an ancient Sumerian game so the rules have been lost, but without getting into the weeds on this…people have compiled a basic set of rules that’s generally agreed upon. I’d encourage you to look it up. Especially the play through with Dr. Irving Finkle and Tom Scott. It’s a fun watch and will explain the most popular way to play. It’s a genuinely fun game to play and one of the best from the ancient world.
