I am happy that I found this video! It is really fascinating and the lecture was very interesting! May I have a couple of questions: 1. The video was published two years ago. Is there any new discovery, publications etc. regarding this mirror? 2. The mirror's front surface looks flat to me. Am I correct? Most magic mirrors are slightly convex. Can this flatness bear any extra information about the mirror's origin or use? 3. Japanese 'hidden Christians' during the Edo era used similar two-plate magic mirrors with a hidden image as a secret symbol of identity (but with a Christ on the cross, not Buddha image, of course). Wouldn't this fact support a hypothesis of Japanese origin?

Kristin gave a wonderfully comprehensive lecture on the Japanese Print Collection at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Learned so much about the generoisity of collectors like the Porters and the Wisemans that benefits us all.
