This demonstration is very impressive of course, sincere congratulations. Instead of that i'm asking me why the first opponent never took roots, not on the foot front nor on the foot behind. The second opponent took root a little on the front foot but not on the behind foot. Why is it like this? Apart from the very clear abilities of the teacher.

Somehow you find comments like yours for every video posted by this channel. I have nothing to do with them but I have been practicing taichi for some years now and I am interested in martial arts anyway. I do not understand your question. It is more than obvious that this is training. The master with a student. And it is an internal martial art. You do not see all that is practiced here. You Can be sure that a master shows a different reaction in a serious fight, which this is not in this video. If you see a video of a boxer practicing a jab, do you write a comment about how that would not work against an attack of a mad cage fighter? Go and visit a good taichi school, ask the master to let you try gently push him away. You will know more after that.

@@bullebap What i am saying is: You are not sparring and testing your skills in any way. So your "skills" are not proven. There is no data about your skills. So you can't make the arguement that these "techniques" are going to work. And your "master" sits on a chair and scamming you by "demonstraiting" a "technique" on a student. Any kickboxer or wrestler with 3 amateur matches can beat these "masters" in striking or grappling. Don't tell people that you can fight. Because you can't. And don't compare this bs to any martial art that has sparring. Your only competition is aikido which is just another bullshido.

About the "souless buddhist" maybe you are refering to the Anattalakkhana Sutta wich is translated as Discourse on Selflessness. Being atta the pali word for self. The term ātman is a philosophical concept from Hindu philosophy and Buddhism that literally translates from Sanskrit as "self", "essence", "breath" or "being". So attman is not "soul". Maybe soul is an occidental concept not present in the vedic nor buddhist times. What is soul as a word anyway? if we dig a little dig we find that the earliest known use of "soul" was in the 8th century. In King Alfred's translation of De Consolatione Philosophiae, it was used to describe the spiritual or thinking aspect of a person, as opposed to their physical body. So we should ask ourself ... where does the "spiritual" concept of soul really come from? On the other hand, in the Abhidhamma two types of reality are recognized. Ultimate reality is composed of four categories: (i) consciousness (citta), (ii) mental factors (cetasika), (iii) matter (rūpa) and (iv) Nibbāna. Here the concept of citta refers to consciousness, while in the Dhamappada in the Citta Vagga it appears as Mind. Never as soul or spirit.

"...where does the "spiritual" concept of soul really come from?..." - This comes from materialism, from the need to find "something" (e.g. scientists try to find the Higs particle). In Buddhism it is not about "there is no soul" but that the person experiencing it creates the world of their experiences - there is no need for any idea of a soul. When you dream a dream during the night you create everything that happens, also the way you create yourself - you can, for example, dream that you are a bird or a "soul" :). In reality it is identical.

I agree. Without real time sparring i refuse to believe this bs. It is so ignorant to think that somebody can apply these "techniques" to a person that is trying to hurt you, without trying them against partners who have will to resist and are not compliant.

I did some Xmas demos with push hands and applications. We did zero preparation. Often we were just told before. There was falling and being thrown in the audience and some hits but mainly fun. It is not fighting or sparring. People demand to see applications and they see them and then complain. Not many people are pushing Tai chi for fighting now except the Docherty crowd and Montague ppl I think. As Adam said very recently, HME is taichigong i.e. work and transformation. Zero emphasis on fighting and hurting ppl. If you want to fight then look at arts that fight hard from day 1.

Lots of western online Buddhists are exposed to secret teachings like "Everybody is already enlightened" much too early in their journey. It quickly becomes a wrong view they are attached to rather than any substantial realization, which is why it's traditionally kept secret!

At 28 minutes in, I agree. I tried applying taiji methods to GoJu Ryu and I find I am just turning it into Taiji. When I learned GoJu/Sung Lung from Owen Watson I was taught to practice it three different speeds to properly learn the kata. 1) Yukuri: (Taiji slow), 2) Chisao (fluid, medium speed), 3) Haiyai ("all out" fast). This practice of learning the katas in three speeds brought me to Taiji Chuan later in my life.

Great chat, though about getting sick @46:00 minutes. From my understanding you get a cold/flu if your body needs to badly detox. Faster detox/more often means healthier immune system, than someone who gets sick less often, but gets more sick when they do get sick. Both these make sense, because the person with a healthier immune system will detox faster rather than let the crap build up inside the body. My partial objection is the idea to those who don't get sick, if you eat clean, stay away from pharma, exercise, clean mind and good air then you shouldn't have much of anything to detox from. Though I would say not getting sick can indicate a problem, especially if a person isn't living in a healthy way.

Most Buddhist are not educated and are often victim of limited presentation of Buddhist ideas. Buddhism just uses the via negativa method-what soul/chitta/tathagatgarbha/dharmahattu.. is not. There are different approaches and terminologies in early and later schools. Saying that soul doesn't exist is a nihilist view and Buddhisst texts are clear about that. Dzogchen is also just a method and certanly not a nihilism.

Both nihilism and materialism are wrong ideas and it is them that guide the whole world in life. Hence the problem with the "being" or "not being" of the soul. And the truth is that "here and now" could never be created so it cannot die either which is completely logical - why any idea of the soul here? :)
