This is so interesting listening to your story. I have been a teacher for 10 years. I lived in Japan. I also performed gospel in Japan. Had a love gospel concert there too and toured around Japan. I now live in Canada and at the age of 32 I am truly ready for a career change. I have always had an interest in law. I pray God continues to lead me. I would love to live in the US. Music is always there for me but as I prepare for the LSAT I just continue to pray for his guidance. Deciding whether it will be here in Canada or the US. I love your story. So similar to my own.

Welcome back, Vanessa! Thanks for sharing your journey. I'm finishing up my undergraduate degree and hope to complete it by the end of the year so I can start preparing for the LSAT. I'm excited to begin my law journey as a non-traditional student. Seeing other inspiring non-traditional law students gives me the confidence to pursue my dreams without feeling discouraged. I'd love to connect with other inspiring law students. If anyone knows of any support or accountability groups for non-traditional law students, please let me know!

Hello, How did you attend rehearsals and be at church for Sunday to sing. I am thinking about joining the praise team in September and thinking what will that look like. Making a commitment and putting the Lord first while doing law school. I am assuming Sunday was your day off? I plan to start school in August 2025, so there is time to join the praise team and adapt. You came to mind so that is why I am reaching out to you. Warm regards, Ms. Pat

You will have time. The first year of law school is definitely demanding of your time but you still need to take care of yourself and do things that help your spiritual and mental health. That's different for everyone. In my case, doing rehearsals and going to church were part of me staying in touch with my "normal" life. Yes, I had to be disciplined to leave and go home to study. Sometimes I missed rehearsals and sometimes I had my iPad with me and was reading for class in between breaks recording in the studio. I found ways to make it work. You can do it.

Thank you for the encouragement and sharing how you kept your commitment to attend church and lead praise. That commitment to the Lord has helped you in law school.

start with your first step to finish your undergrad. I recommend that someone starting at zero, do your basic undergrad classes through straighterline.com. Those credits transfer to most universities/colleges. Complete your courses for your major somewhere that works for you. You will save move this way. Don't worry about studying for the LSAT until you have 60 credits undergrad behind you. Then decide what the best route is for law school for you; ie. close to home or somewhere specific to your goals. It's never too late to get started... you're still breathing so you can do it.

The renters in my home moved out and I had to decide whether to go ahead and move into my house at the end of 2023 or try to find new renters for just 1 year since I am graduating this December. I miss being so close to the school but I love my house and it is only 10 minutes from the Courthouse where I have been interning. I guess I've reached the place where I would be commuting one way or another. For SURE I highly recommend living as close to the law school as possible for your first 3 semesters. You will likely have classes 4 days a week during those semesters and being close will be a lifesaver. After your 3rd semester, things change.

Congrats to you ❤❤. Non-traditional law student here about to start my 1L year. Wondering if you would be willing to share outlines we could use as a guide?
@vanessamaxlawАй бұрын
I don't think my outlines would be helpful for you, honestly. Barbri makes basic 1L outlines available to any law students. The BEST outlines to help you as a 1L student is to get one from someone who took your class with your professor RECENTLY at your school. Once you join club on campus, most have an outline database from members who did well on their exams. That is the best option for truly helpful outlines. Other than that, start with the Table of Contents for your textbook and use that as a guide for what your major headings will be as you start your own outline at the beginning of the semester.

Good to see you back producing content. Question - did you find there to be any issues as a Non-Traditional student in securing Internships? Were there any real or implicit restrictions on what was available to you, and related, did you feel like your Internship was positively or negatively impacted by your employer's awareness of your age? (I see how being more mature could be seen as a positive by some employers -- and hope that was the case.)
@vanessamaxlawАй бұрын
No issues at all. Actually I had wonderful internships. I have several non-traditional friends at school and everyone seems to have had great experiences. I think the non-traditional experience is more common than most of us think.

Takes courage because I get discouraged at the fact that I am 26 and currently studying for my LSAT. I’ll be applying in the next cycle so in essence I’ll be 27 going into law school as a 1L; thus graduating at 30 years old. Thank you for making this video as being in law school in my late 20’s would be something to that I’m not used to as usually I’m used to seeing people my age in class.
@lynneandrew24485 ай бұрын
You are not going to feel out of place at 27, since that is the average age of 1L and 2L students. You’ll be with your peers and fit in just fine. Myself, I’ll be 47 when applying, so old enough to be the parent of the majority of 1L and 2L students. Graduating at 30 gives you PLENTY of productive decades ahead of you.

@@lynneandrew2448 thank you for the kind words. I guess I just get a little discouraged sometimes because of me being in my late 20’s and not applying sooner
@alecmorales2 ай бұрын
You’ll have the same thoughts in 5-10 years anyway, and then you’ll realize you were still really young at 30 years old anyway. Do not get discouraged, you have the present right now and that is all that matters.

I just back to college at the age of 64. It seems to be a experience for myself. Some of the students were high school students and heard some nasty comments, just brushed it off. Had to understand the requirements of the Professor 's MLA and reading materials.

Everyone's situation is different. I chose to take the cost of living loans along with the school loans. it was the only way I could go full-time. However, as a non-traditional student, my house is paid for and I didn't have a lot of debt. When I graduate I will basically have a mortgage worth of student loan payments. I'm okay with that.
