It actually WAS real and they have some in a museum. (Ninjato) You can go online and see them. Very old and they were only for close quarters combat. You can't use a katana inside of a hallway of someone's home that you are about to assassinate.

Thanks for making this video. Good information. You could get some 1mm cord, some adhesive, and add another layer to the handle to make the grip equal with that metal ridge.
@helenwrong63634 ай бұрын
Oh, on further use and letting others test it out most just came to the conclusion that it's not a particularly good practice sword. The pommel doesn't enforce a certain way of handling the grip and the balance feels so wrong. Please, if you're interested in getting one, Buy a Wheel Pommel version.

Yeah this thing is littered with tool markings. I think that's more of a bonus because it adds texture, which makes it more analogous to how real swords feel when they are banged together. If it was entirely smooth then they would slide even more than they already do

Don't smack your sword in the saya. You can damage the Koiguchi and have to fix it. A broken saya can be very exspensive. The Iaito sword is used for training and show so that you do not hurt yourself. Most schools starts with the Iaito blade then move to live blades.
@helenwrong63639 ай бұрын
For the price it doesn't really matter. It doesn't have that mouthpiece, instead just being would that was already a very loose fit when I got it. Add glue paper inside the mouth to actually fit right. I should say a better example, but I'm kind of spired by Matthew Jensen and I want to show training in Pullmans like this being abused so that their quality can be better judged.

I get the vibe that you get the Lionheart Blade for learning forms, and the Purple Heart Armory for the Sparring.
@helenwrong63639 ай бұрын
Yes! These are good for solo drills to get a handle of edge alignment due to how loudly these things swing while the PurpleHeart Synthetics are generally better for sparring in terms of durability and being more realistic to a steel sword.

@helenwrong636311 ай бұрын
Oh major ooph. Hope you can return it! Buy you shouldn't really trust the general claim of "alloy steel" anyways. It could really mean anything which is terrifying- Specific number like 9160 carbon steel or 6150 spring steel is something you should see instead. If you're looking for good steel HEMA sword I recommend looking at Purpleheart Armory. Unless you're in europe, where you can go to Black Fencer. A good steel training sword will run you about $200

As an iaido practitioner, there's one very important thing about iaito swords. They are not designed to make contact with anything. They are made of an aluminum-zinc alloy that makes them lighter and less durable that regular steel swords. If a properly made iaito makes hard contact with another blade or hard object, it can easily break or shatter. If you want a blunt sword to mess around with and hit things with, I'd highly reccomend looking into HEMA katanas. Sigi Forge makes a katana with a strong blade and thick edge that can easily go through lots of abuse. Another HEMA katana out there is the VB katana which is sold on Purple Heart Armory.
@helenwrong636311 ай бұрын
Right. I was showing that this steel one is able to make contact and is durable enough to take some abuse. I value stuff that is harder to bang up, so including some whacking is the best way to show that. I did want a SIGI katana for a while, but then I saw what Akado Armory has and think that their swords are a bit more true to form.

@helenwrong6363 Жыл бұрын
@@willpeony5534 as far as I know: sanding off the coating is just for aesthetics. I prefer my blades to look more metallic, but I appreciate that this cuts down on maintenance a significant amount. This is indicative of a cheaper sword, so if you're sensitive about being called poor then yeah, sanding it off would help your ego lmao

Better first you train all iai do with a wooden katana … like miamoto Musashi … and after 5 years training you begin with a real katana … be prepared… 🔥🔥🔥🌱🔥🔥🔥

That seems excessive when conversely it took me like an afternoon to get decent at cutting with a dussack and a longsword. I mean I had like a year or so of experience with blunt steel weapons and heavy plastic simulators, but it's not five years worth. I'm pretty sure if you give me a sharp Katana it's gonna take me like a couple of afternoons to understand how to cut good with it without over-swinging. Like a katana is just a blade heavy bastard sword basically, it's not too different from the longsword that I already use
