No minimum altitude requirements for unpowered aircraft?

Is that wee mirror to see the turbo extend? If so, where can I get one, please?
So for a glider it's called height? Would normally be altitude? Sorry I'm not a pilot.
@BradleySoanes2 күн бұрын
@@sublime929 please don’t be sorry! Thank you for engaging! 😊 So they are all relevant terms, lots of it depends on how high you are. There is a difference between height and altitude. It’s a lot to type here but to put it simply • Height refers to the vertical distance of an object or aircraft above a specific point, typically the ground or terrain directly beneath it. • Altitude refers to the vertical distance of an object or aircraft above a reference level, usually mean sea level (MSL). In simple terms, height is measured relative to the ground, while altitude is measured relative to sea level.

Here's the mathematical equation describing this flight: No Engine + No Altitude + No Airspeed = No Options
@BradleySoanes7 күн бұрын
@@richardpark3054 there is an engine, this is housed in the engine bay but at this height it is unsafe to try and use it. It’s ridge flying so there isn’t much altitude, there is plenty of airspeed and plenty of fields so there is plenty of options. Thank you for the comment but probably worth thinking before you speak. Especially if you don’t know what you are on about which by your comment, it’s clear you don’t. 😂

@@BradleySoanes Sorry, Bro, didn't intend to strike a nerve! I had no idea this was a motor glider! Although, your statement that it was unsafe to use the engine at that height puzzles me: why is it unsafe to use? If it's unsafe to use, how does that add to your options? ' Thank you for your free advice, I shall respect it with regard appropriate to its cost! And while we're trading free advice, here's some from me to you: Being easily offended sometimes has negative health consequences! Cheers!
@BradleySoanes7 күн бұрын
@ no problem. It’s extremely hard to tell on comments how something was meant, especially when we live in a world of keyboard warriors. This glider has an engine that you can use if you are going to land in a field, that being said it requires a safe height to extend it, dive start it (it has no starter), then recover, overall it uses about 800ft to carry this out safely and when you are on a ridge and the highest point is approx 500/600ft starting it isn’t an option. If it doesn’t start then you have an airbrake out which accelerates your time into a field. It’s vital to always have a field picked incase it doesn’t start at any altitude but when flying this ridge you just have to consider it not an option… unless you climb up on a high bit, get as high as possible then you can start it but this would only be done if you were flying back to another airfield rather than the ridges home airfields which you would glide into.

*Not* a situation I would like to be in... It is hard to judge how high the ridge is compared to the flat part on the right; There does not appear to be much margin to deal with any unexpected intrusions (sink, other gliders, distractions)
@BradleySoanes16 күн бұрын
@@ronaldglider you are correct it’s really hard to work it out. Margin is 100% down to the pilot, if you are flying, can you handle the situation that you are in? There is no distractions, sink is minimal as it’s along in theory what is a working ridge. There are plenty of large grass fields that worst case you turn into wind and land in. The interesting thing with this exact ridge is that it’s low anyway… at any stage you can be less than 60 seconds from being in a field. Speed is your friend in this situation, hence holding on extra speed to convert as required. With the experience I have I was 100% happy that I was content and in control and the worst case scenario is that I land in a field safely. In my eyes that is a win and as I am sure you know, every time you take off you could be battling a climb away from a field in order to not end up in it, landing in fields is always a possibility in gliding even when local soaring. 😊 but, it all comes down to the pilots competency, ability and margin.

@@JonDrake1 why? There is absolutely nothing illegal in this flight at all, it’s a glider ridge soaring… exactly the same as a paraglider or hang glider flying on the ridge, they are all required to be in the ridge lift to stay aloft.
