I have a question about this. I want to take pictures and also use it visually on my lens, I plan to install it on the left side of the dual focuser, so if I install it, can I use the right side of the focuser mechanically, I asked the seller and they said it will lock the mechanical movement, meaning only 1 of the 2 can be selected.

How about a comparison on DSO with them ? Most probably the 127 mm reflector would win. I would really like to see that :)
@KevinRudd-w8s3 күн бұрын
Maks are not really the best scope for viewing DSOs as due to the long focal length and corresponding small field of view many gaseous nebulae would appear so faint and diffuse you wouldn't see them. I would think they would be good for globular clusters, double stars and some galaxies but the latter would appear very faint ( the longer the focal length the larger but fainter the target appears, not a problem for planets, the moon and bright compact dsos but for large faint objects definitely a disadvantage). Maks are foremost planetary and lunar scopes at which they can excel Note that very few images of dsos appearing in the astro media or on-line are taken with Maks compared with images taken with refractors or SCTs and these often include focal reducers in the imaging train as well. Lots of observers seem to prefer large Dobs for looking at faint, compact DSOs, understandable really, they don't call them light buckets for nothing. .

At 600 mm it's not too short for the planets. With a 4 mm eyepiece you get 150x magnification and with a 3 mm one 200x, that's more than enough.

you need to take into account seeing. On very good atmospheric seeing 127 mak pulls ahead from any 80mm refractor because of the higher resolution. Also, for planets any focal length comparison is irrelevant given all the barlows available on the market.

I have been doing visual astronomy for 20 years and never looked back. There is something special about finding objects by start hopping. Planets have been my focus but I also enjoy testing my optics and air stability by splitting stars. My best nights were the ones I didn’t expect the atmosphere to be totally calm! The reward of a moment of calm air and the details that manifest still takes my breath away until this day despite having had several nights when even a stacked image can’t compete with what my eyes can see through a binoviwer.

The market will decide if ZWO's closed system is a mistake. People don't like it and I understand that. If you don't like the strategy they are using, then don't buy their products. That will tell them more than a bunch of complaints in the comments section. Right now I don't think ZWO is losing any sleep over your complaints. Thank you for this video! I'm not keeping up with the latest gear, it's not within my reach at the current life situation so I'm still using my Evostar 80ED (as you) and my HEQ5 Pro. I decided to put it in an observatory just to the the most out of every clear night, and I don't have that many up here at 63 degrees north and by the sea. I try to plan and give every image my very best in terms of love and caring (and hours) as well as a background text for the people that want to share the images with me. I like to be outside when it's clear, just to enjoy the night sky, but I don't have any gear for visual observation at this time. I've been thinking of just getting a lens to my DSLR and take some mily way images to complement my deep sky object photos. As for my channel, I haven't really decided, what should I do with that. Right now, it's more a documentation of my projects and my images.

@teb76 G'day there. For myself I actually use a long USB powered extension to my mount outside. This connects to a powered USB hub which sits on the mount and then I connect everything to that. You could also use a remote pc connection to a little mini PC which I sometimes use for Deep Sky astro. Hope this helps. 👍

Really good points Ollie. I'm happiest when the tech and the creativity are balanced. As for content creation, you are right. Some of my best performing videos are gear reviews, but I too find making them disruptive to the hobby. I thought about maybe having one rig set aside specifically for gear reviews.. but I just don't enjoy tinkering and fine tuning a rig. For me the the rig exists to collect data, if I'm futzing with it too much then I'm loosing time and interest. That is not to say I won't get new gear... just that currently my eagerness to get something for review or run out and buy something new is currently diminished.. well except for cameras.. I could really use a new one or two... lol.
