This just shows that if you want to hear Dvorak played perfectly, ask a Czech quartet to do it!!

The soloists have decided to perform the quartet with cuts, avoiding repetitions. I think they have made the right decision (it would be a different matter if this decision is maintained in the recordings).

Thank you for your insightful comment. We have worked this version out based on the new material made available to us by the Martinu Institute in Prague. The edits respect composer's own notes which became apparent after the set of individual parts have been discovered by the musicologist Mgr. Aleš Březina, PhD. in the archive of the Prague Conservatory of Music. The parts belonged to the Ševčík-Lhotský Quartet who went through the piece with Martinů being present and making the updates and edits based on what he heard at the rehearsals. The quartet lated premiered the pieces. In this respect, one can consider this version being closer to composer's actual wish as to how the piece should sound compared to the one which is available as sheet music. So, should we ever record it, we will record this version 🙂

@@bennewitzquartet9170 That was very kind of you to clarify. I was not aware of the new musicological discoveries. I am very pleased about all this and hope that we will soon have the complete Martinu quartets from you.
I strongly hope that the album of this music will be released !

We remember with much affection this ensemble when they were students at the Escuela Reina Sofía, one of the best quartets that have passed through our classrooms. We wish you a successful career!!

I saw and heard this quartet playing today in the Noorderkerk in Amsterdam and immediately became a big fan of them. The way they played the Kreutzer Quartet of Janácek to me was like music 'not from this earth''. The two violins, the viola, the cello, they each sounded as the instruments were meant to sound. I also loved the way the men communicated with each other while playing. It was an experience I would never have missed. And I was not the only one in the audience who was overwhelmed by this beautiful music; no simple sound or cough was heard duringe more than an hour from it and the quartet became a standing ovation. Thanks to the four players, who also played a difficult quartet of Mozart (nr. 15) in a same beautiful way. I thought it was a pity there was no radiorecording in the church, so that more people could have heard this perfect performance. Wish them all the best. Emma Albers
