What is the line speed? Has she been used under her own power yet?
@lfewell21616 жыл бұрын
I know the power cars were based on BR mk1s with mk3 bodies, but were the trailer's / driving trailer's built the same or were they built new but with B4 bogies?

Great stuff and well done for acquiring this unit, it may be modern in appearance, but the sounds and engineering come from a long while back. As he said, the final flowering of the DEMU type. Hope she runs for many years. Still have happy memories of a trip to Northern Ireland and seeing these DEMUs running, even the 70's back then.

Nice to see one of these has escaped the excavators. Spent many happy years running the Southern Region DEMUs, lovely old reliable units. Saw the NIR units back in the 80's including a very memorable ride on a by then rare 70 class. Great stuff and very well done on you for saving this unusual DEMU. Rumour had it that at one time the Southern Region in the UK were going to do a similar rebuild on our 3D/3H units. The first time l saw a Castle class DEMU l wondered if it was a 210, by then withdrawn, but of course one look and a listen told me it was a familiar friendly old 4SRKT powered unit ! Pity a 210 power car or unit wasn't saved. But a 450 is just as good in my book. Are there still any plans afoot to save an 80 class ? Saw some nasty pics of those being scrapped, even those with the central doorlocking mods. Not nice !

Thanks Alasdair. We do have plans to acquire an 80 class unit, but it's still in use with NI Railways for sandite application.

Downpatrick & County Down Railway Thanks for that. Good news! I live in Scotland but I love Northern Ireland Railways. I'll have to come over and visit the railway soon and see the 450 in action.

Often rode on their British equivalents from Reading to Basingstoke and Guildford, but never been on an NIR 450, or ridden on the DCDR, so this video is most enjoyable. Thanks.

Something very different indeed, well done to all involved rescuing it, quite appropriate that the video length is 4.50!! A shade of what might have been if the line had never closed!!
