Try just spraying CRC electronic cleaner on ignition switch’s electrical plug both the male green plug and female electrical receptor. Probably nothing wrong with ignition switch as it’s oxidation and carbon buildup that degrades the electronic signal enough to cause random NO START issue. Remember this is a random event not a broken ignition switch that requires replacement. Start there first.

When you reinstall the new sensor back into the housing ... does the key need to be in the run or off position?

That's the ignition switch. The passlock switch is on the other side.

Goood to know and very helpful. Please re title this DIY to read 'Hummer H3 Rattling Noise Solved"'. This post does NOTHING to "solve" for H3 vibration problems as title suggests.

Mine would lock up and wouldn’t even crank till u do the procedure it started with 10 min then got worse to 3 x 10 min procedure and it got so bad I’d get stuck on parking lot for 30 min too many times so I found info on internet and cut a wire to disengage for good ,now I’m good

Thanks, I have had my passlock change out three times by the dealer. Once under warranty and twice I had to pay. I just change it myself using your instructions. Worked great.

Hey guys, so I changed the sensor... it worked. But then the light came back and it's happening again. Should I change the rest of the assembly? Or get a key cylinder?

My 09 sounds like a cow when I accelerate the gas when I let off noise lessens Did ur truck sound like a cow as u accelerated is that the vibrating ???

I am installing one tomorrow . I have tried the tricks that seemed to work for a while like cleaning the passlock and flipping the key and releasing as suggested by some. Wife wont drive it as she has even had a double 10 min wait and it is cold even here in GA. Prices must have skyrocketed since your fix now it is ~58 bux for the part. automatic trans. version.

Mine made a similar noise. Was from a missing clamp on exhaust heat shield. Really cheap fix.

Just installed the sensor on my 2007 H3.... Did it the same way as the video (Sensor only). Worked like a charm..... The hardest part was getting the plastic off the was around the steering column! I will report back in a few weeks to let you know if the issues has stopped! Thanks for the helpful video!

My 2009 is quite until when cool but soon as engine heats to normal temp the sound starts between 2nd and 3rd gear.

I ordered the new part and was able to install it successfully in about 15 minutes, plus the 30 minute process to rest the passcode. Thank you for the video post, Kyle! It was perfect and I'm not mechanically inclined at all. Big help!!!!

Did you have to replace the key at all or will it recognize the original one that came with your H3? Sorry if it's s stupid question. I'm gonna try and fix it myself.

It will recognize the original key but you have to go through a process. I'll try and find a link for it.

posting for others benefit.... 30-MINUTE LEARN PROCEDURE after passlock replacement Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start. Observe the SECURITY Light telltale. After approximately 10 minutes , the telltale will turn OFF. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds . Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes . The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or password XXXXX the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. NOTE: You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. Start the engine. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

mine vibrates after sitting for a long time. after warm the sound stops. seems like it is coming from the lower left of engine when looking at it from under hood.

This works great, simple and relatively cheap, $50 in Connecticut stores.Over a year now with no problems. Found this video shortly after it was uploaded. Other videos had complicated and expensive modifications.Thanks Kyle.

Sounds like you have a bad head gasket. You can buy a kit and test the fluids.

mine was doing the same thing, turned out my heater core went. It's not a cheap fix but sitting in 90 degree traffic with the ac blowing and staying on 1/4 sure is nice

2006 Hummer h3 owner with 150,000 miles and have been having the 10 minute thing going on for awhile now so I bought the passlock replacement at the auto parts store and did not want to screw things up so I called a locksmith to take the new electrical part off the new product I bought and put it on my existing housing just like you did in this video and he went through the programing of the key which took 30 minutes and then the car started and now I am a week after and car has not acted up yet. My fingers are crossed...Chris Berner

It's a somewhat simple fix it's the drain lines that go through the firewall. Try spraying simple green down the holes towards the front of the vehicle. If that doesn't work then you need to clean the lines by hand.

mine is doing the same thing, but i checked and that bracket is still attached :/ EDIT: for anybody wondering, I found and fixed the problem. It was the heat shield, but under the front of the engine, below the oxygen sensor under the hummer. Layed underneath it, reached up, and cranked down a big hose clamp to the shield. No more vibration. Had a friend hold the brakes, and rev the engine in drive to 1800RPM to find the source of the buzzing.

never had this issue till I replaced the radio. 3 weeks ago my H3 just start acting funny with this passlock code which is annoying me so bad. the way i do it, turning on and wait 30 scnd, and off. wait 5 scnd and turning on again and wait 10 scnd and start....Will fired up right way...l would like to find out better way to fixed instead changing the ignition switch. ..I will do the same way like you do above but I don't have mechanical knowledge unless I have to pay dealership which is redicules a lot of money...thanks for the video.

Yes after replacing with new passlock you will need to reprogram the system if I can find the instructions will post a link

If the vehicle was shut off after a normal start do I have to program the sensor after I replace it? My problem has been every so many starts the passlock makes me wait 10 minutes to start. Once started the lock light turns off. So back to my question, If I shut the vehicle off on a normal cycle do I need to program the sensor?
